This week's poll, suggested by our member (and staff) CatzCradle, is about communicating with the author of the series you read. Have you ever done it? If yes, then how so and under what circumstance was it?

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related):
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: If paper manga were 40-50% cheaper, would you be more likely to buy it?
Choices:
I would buy all my manga - votes: 3079 (21.3%)
I would buy significantly more volumes - votes: 6528 (45.1%)
I would buy a bit more - votes: 2239 (15.5%)
I would not buy more - votes: 341 (2.4%)
I would buy less - votes: 29 (0.2%)
I prefer buying electronic copies - votes: 623 (4.3%)
I would only read scanlations - votes: 1633 (11.3%)
There were 14472 total votes.
The poll ended: March 31st 2012

In general, most of us would buy more, but it's quite sad that a good number of people would still only read scanlations and never support the authors and the industry.

No, never been on my mind. I suppose, imo, I don't see the point of doing it.

Other: I would, but there is a language barrier.

I've exchanged some tweets with some authors, but the most contact I have with Toyokazu Matsunaga. I translate Paperakyu, fully condoned by him.

Kind of; they know their information, but not their language.

This. I can't speak/write/read Japanese, and I'm not sure if the author could read English.
I will do it if I could write Japanese tough.

Yes, it would be nice to one day sit and have a drink with the brilliant minds that brought us such amazing stories; it truly would.

Occasionally, but only with my favorite mangaka that are okay with talking with their overseas fans. Like Aki tweets to her overseas fans sometimes and stuff [but in Japanese, unfortunately] so I reply back. But that's about it. :/ Some authors do get quite confused when they receive tweets from their non-Japanese fans so I try to refrain from talking to them [even in Japanese] unless they're okay with it.

But if you can also count OEL manga authors, then sure I talk to them a lot. Like the authors on MangaMagazine are really nice and like to communicate with their fans. Like they comment on your pages and they reply to your comments and stuff. No language barrier there either so...

Ehh..no. What the heck is the point, anyway? I'm not interested in the mangaka, I'm interested in their stories; if they stop writing the kind of stories I like, then I have no feelings towards them any more. This has happened a lot, btw. And not just with mangaka, but with anime directors, movie directors and novelists as well. So much so that nowadays I never say "I'm a fan of this author/director". It's just not worth it.

I don't think they'd be too pleased to hear from mostly people who read their pirated manga instead of bought legit laugh
Not to mention the language barrier. Between those two things, the author would probably be pissed to hear from you by letter, email or phone. Especially when you want to talk about a series that isn't licensed in English. Twitter and FB can easily be ignored.
