So, I just found out that Diablo 3 requires a minimum of 2.8 Ghz processor speed to play. I think this is interesting, since most normal, everyday computers (including mine, I might add) come with much less then that. Is this simply the progression of gaming, or is Blizzard specially trying to weed out non-hardcore gamers? Or are they simply expecting people to have newer computers? (Mine is around 4 years old.)

Opinions?

There is a general trend for games to require increasingly powerful computers. I think this trend is largely driven by expectations that gamers want to see increasingly detailed graphics. However, other types of applications run just fine on slower computers, so low-end PCs today are comparable in power to average machines from about a decade ago, and fall below the minimum specs for many modern games. This is unfortunate, because as our corrupt economic model used by most major countries today continues to drive down the real income of the average person, more powerful PCs are becoming less affordable to many people, despite the technological improvements in the industry.

No, that 2.8GHz is a for a Pentium D CPU, they are old, it will run fine with a Core 2 Duo or better.

I have a 2.4 GHz processor on a computer that is 3 years old and have been running the D3 beta just fine. They have assured us that anyone that can run the beta will have no trouble (spec-wise) with the full game. The entire point of the beta is to discover the full range of tech bugs and fix them, so it would be stupid to have a lower-spec beta than final game.

Almost all processors released anytime in the recent past will work on any current games minimum requirements. What you need to look out for is your graphics card. Recommended settings may knock off a processor group or 2 tho.

Oh, yeah, I admit that Diablo 3 has a kind of absurdly long list of graphics cards from the past 8 years that don't work for it.

I've got a crappy 6470 but thankfully my apu crossfires to make it a 6640g2. Its running aion at just under max settings, and should work better with a dx11 supported game like diablo smile . Amd are f'ing miracle workers for low budget gaming.

Wait.... d3 was dx11 right o,o

LOLWUT
2.8Ghz is hardcore now? What is this, 2005?
Blizzard makes it so that the average user ie. the "non-hardcore" gamers can play their games too. If you can't meet the minimum requirements of a Blizzard game, it's not them weeding you out, it's just you having a fossil for a computer.

Has anyone here played the game after launch? There aren't many reviews yet from the larger sites or newspapers worth reading. All the talk is centered around the always online requirement preventing logins and screwing up saves. There are surprisingly few credible reviews talking seriously about the gameplay and graphics.

So i will answer your questions.
I am playing right now barbarian and im on 19 lvl.

Gameplay- not as addicting as diablo 2 but i more than this i cant say a bad word. Im on normal difficulty so it seems its really easy but i hope it will change when i get further in the game.

Character development- your only develpoment is choosing which chatacter you want to play. Skills and stats are automatically given and you can only choose which skills you will use at the moment. So imo in comparision to diablo 2 its worse.

Items- cant say much. I found only one unique weapon (written with brown letters) and it was good. Others weapons like normal or magic seems to me a little unbalanced. One handed weapon deals more damage than two handed weapon on the same level required< strange, imo need a change.

Story- good so far i wont spoil anything go play yourself;p Just one thing to add not many players played diablo 1 and 2 and probably 3 for storytelling.

Online- didnt play yet, im still too green and dont want to embarass myself;D

Overall- for now i need to see others characters and complete full storyline to score this game but for now it seems not as addicting as diablo 2 which was real "time vampire".

If you got more questions you are free to ask them. If I will know the answer i will gladly share.
