I'm looking for a good seinen (or REALLY good shonen) manga that is realistic, has a good compelling story, and has actual depth and intelligence. Something maybe like Eden: It's an Endless World! Doesn't have to be science fiction, just something to make me draw me in and then make me think. And please have the art be somewhat realistic. Length dont matter, as long as it stays good throughout its entirety. Dont like it when mangaka run out of stuff to do and just continue on for the money, letting the series get worse and worse. I want it to feel like a real story, that has a beginning, middle and end that seem like they were planned from the beginning. Oh and if it were completely scantalated that would be fabulous. Thank you!!

The only things I've read yet that are deep other than Eden: It's an Endless World! are
Parts of Chobits
And Kino no Tabi - The Beautiful World (Novel)
I know theres more than this but I haven't read them yet. They are on my to read list.

Oooohhhh Stardust Memories looks perfect! Just the sort of science fiction I'm into. Thank you very much!

All of these look very good. Thank you very much for the recommendations! I like that you gave me some older stuff. Haven't read enough manga from the 70s and 80s.

Definitely Gunslinger Girl.
Also any work from Urasawa Naoki (Pluto probably the closest one to your request, check also Monster, 20th century Boys, Billy Bat, etc.).
Also Historie if you're into ancient history a little bit.

Banana Fish - The art style is unique and is very love/hate (I personally love it because it's more realistic than mangas full of bishies), but the story is very deep, complex and never boring. It's completely scanlated and has the perfect ending.

Let Dai - More emotion based than action based, this is also a shounen-ai, but whether or not the two male leads get it on really isn't the point of this manga. It's a really good read, though the ending could have been better imho. Deep story line, good art, and completely scanlated.

Sanctuary - This is an action manga which combines a complex political plot with a touching story about friendship. The art is very 90s, but I like that style. It has a deep plot, which was clearly planned out to tell a story, and an amazing ending. Pretty much the only bad thing about this manga is the very derogoratory role women take in it, with the one remotely capable female character being reduced to a simpering damsel rather rapidly. It gets a bit irritating, but the story is worth the insult.

Kokuhaku (KAWAGUCHI Kaiji) - This is short, but brilliantly done. It basically tells the story of two friends trapped on a mountain who start to lose their faith in each other. The way it plays out is guranteed to keep you on edge and really make you think about human nature.

Yasha - This has an incredibly complex plot, with a lot of thought behind it. The scans are only up to chapter 5, so you may want to wait a while before starting this as you'll get hooked. I haven't finished it myself, but at least up to volume 3 it matches your criteria.

Kanojo no Namida ga Yuki da Toshitara - Again, this is short, but it is a sweet and pretty deep love story. It's not too complex, but it will make you think and is more realistic than a lot of manga out there.

Houkago Hokenshitsu - Not the most realistic out there, but it is thought provoking and pretty deep. It's a welcome change from the usual high school romance.

ES - Well it does raise questions of ethics and sits firmly within the grey area in terms of morals, so is deep in that sense. The romance, however, is a little corny and I felt the male protagonist was too mature. Still, you like sci-fi, so this might appeal. It does have a pretty decent ending, and is an interesting read.

Zipang. Politics, ethics, WWII, suspense. I hope it doesn't disappoint you. BTW, nice idea with your lists. Check my lists and look for the top rated mangas (there's comedy, shounen, shoujo and josei, but IMO they are worth a try). Have fun!

Just finished Freesia recently. Interesting in a lot of ways, but didn't really hook me too much. Was hard to care much about what was going on. Will have to read it again.
