Well, basically I'm kinda curious. I tried before (to read a yaoi...or was it shounen ai? can't remember), but that manga was really boring, so I stopped reading it.

So, do you know what manga is a good yaoi/shounen ai to start with? Or simply, what yaoi/shounen ai did you start with??

EDIT: I don't care whether it's lighter or more sexual romance.

EDIT2: I never got to reply to this post huh....anyway, thanks everyone for your responses! I did get into shounen-ai and yaoi manga (hardcore fan now). Some of them are awesome! biggrin

do you mean yaoi as in with sexual content or just with a m/m relationship? in any case, I would recommend you read Seven Days. no sexual content, just innocent romance - it's absolutely lovely.

I started of with "Koisuru Boukun" and fell in love with it. It is rather explicit though and if your looking for something more light than I'd recommend "Yume Musubi Koi Musubi", "TV-kun no Kimochi", or "Sorenari ni Shinken nandesu". I highly recommend "Darling" by Ougi Yuzuha, " Sekaiichi Hatsukoi", "Critical Lovers" and anything by SAKURAGA Mei and Tennouji Mio and Nekota Yonezou.

They may seem long but its well worth the read. I would also recommend just going to any manga viewing site like Mangafox, Animea.net, or Mangapark and going to their yaoi section and look at their most popular yaoi mangas.

Hope I was of some help. Happy reading biggrin

My introduction to yaoi was through the anime version of Yami no Matsuei. It's not really yaoi, not even shounen-ai, but the anime features highly suggestive situations that made me seek out the real thing.

Gravitation - this is a good place to start, because it's not hard-core, and there is a plot besides the romance.

FAKE, same thing.

Haru wo Daite Ita (Embracing Love), the popular work by NITTA Youka, features a loving (and beautiful) main couple who commit almost right away. This one is the most explicit in my list. Another of her manga, When a Man Loves a Man, is what really got me thoroughly hooked on yaoi.

Totally Captivated is another justly popular series.

You might not want to jump right into a long series. Here's a few one volume works that I love.

Hachimitsu Darling
Wild Rock
Make Me Happy - this story collection is a good introduction to the works of MIYAMOTO Kano
Uso to Kiss by MINASE Masara, or one of her story collections, Mijuku na Kareshi
Boku no Shiru Anata no Hanashi
Dare ga Omae wo Suki dato Itta is a good representation of YAMADA Yugi's work
Yami ni Tooboe, Mune ni Toge to try out something by NAONO Bohra.

Read a bunch of different things, find out what you like, and come back and ask for more!
