What I'm looking for are series where a main character (preferably the protagonist) starts out incredibly optimistic about the world surrounding them. Through a series of events, preferably displayed in the manga, they become cynical and jaded.

I would recommend Haruhi Suzumiya (Novel), but Kyon is cynical from the very start. It's still a good read if you like cynical characters.

How could I forget Rock from Black Lagoon, he totally gets more and more cynical as the story goes on.
