Hmmm, now that you mention those two again, they are opposites

About yasu-bashing again..
well he's a typical guy so he's way of doing things are different. and i think he may act manipulative and user-friendly, but it's not full selfishness on his part..he may also think that he's doing yamato a favor by forcing/helping to be more open, fun and to have a better social life..so in a way, he's just looking-out for yamato..

tanstaafl im not gonna say you're wrong or bash you just make some comments =P
1.) They were in fact little kids... cant say any little kid isnt going to save his own hide especially from a mob of ticked off women.
2.) Could Yamato not just blew him off and went home? Yes he could have but he didnt. Also we all know what Yasu's version of fun is (anything to do with girls) and he clearly said lets go have some fun. As dense as Yamato is he is fully aware of that. Also the whole situation helped lead to them breaking up which, in my opinion, was a far better result because neither of them had the kind of trust needed in a relationship. Also long distance relationships with even the most trusting of people suffer greatly because the longer you are away from each other the more independence you build up... and from my own exp. when you get back together theres that expectation of things being the same when in fact they just wont ever be the same... not that they were great to begin with for those two.
3.) As i said before its true that he did get caught while he was walking around by Ayano. But then again the whole situation about what really went on wasnt exactly well defined either. Yasu didnt say anything and acted like he didnt know what they were talking about. Miki flat out told whoever everything she knew. The uncertain part fo rme is about the phone calls. It stated that Suzukas parents tried calling her but couldnt get ahold of her so they called Ayano. Thats when Ayano would have tried to get ahold of Yasu and Miki. So if you really want to say that anyone is to blame for this issue it would be Suzuka and Yamato for deciding to do it as well as the issue with not being able to be contacted.
ah i guess i kind of cleared up the phone call business for myself there.. but thats just going by my memory do correct me if im wrong tho as i said it wasnt as well defined as it should have been imo not that it really mattered as far as the story went seing as it worked itself out.. >.>

Are the two of us even talking about the same manga?
I tried to do a detailed reply, but couldn't: too much of what you seem to be reading in the manga is totally different from what I'm seeing.
Here's one example of where we seem to be reading things a lot differently: the childhood incident in the spa...
Quote from xenophia
1.) They were in fact little kids... cant say any little kid isnt going to save his own hide especially from a mob of ticked off women.
Here's how I read that section:
Yosunobu wasn't trying 'to save his own hide': he set the whole thing up for his benefit at Yamato's expense.
He accused Yamato of bullying him and ran into the spa, all so he could play the victim and get sympathy from the women.
The only one the women were ticked off at was Yamato, and that was because Yosunobu deliberately lied and set Yamato up as the bad guy.
Other parts of your post also don't seem to match what I read in the series, so I think we may as well give this debate up: if we don't even agree on what's actually written in the manga, I don't think we'll get anywhere discussing all the motives, etc. that aren't written anywhere.

Just an after thought.
You guys recall how Yasunobu was calm when Yamato was trying out on at the track? Though Yamato was so enthusiastic about everything else aside from running, he showed quite an impressive performance which Yasunobu was aware of?
Yasunobu did mentioned that Yamato was quite a runner when they got into trouble when they were still kids. And the featured memory was still at the bath house if I recalled correctly.
So, it does imply that they hung-out a lot with each other as well as got into trouble with each other as well.
Basing Yasunobu as someone unworthy for friendship with only one incident is quite hard since the two have been friends, like it or not, up to now. Yasunobu realized him as being a runner from those times that they got into trouble. Both of them which would imply that it had happened a couple of times. If that were the case, why hasn't Yamato declined on joining Yasonobu in those occasions? Having it happen numerous times would somehow give you an idea that Yamato himself is interested and joins Yasunobu, even half-heartedly or perhaps subconsciously. Yasunobu as an outlet for his own short comings on being himself. It just so happens that Yamato gets the short end of the stick at the end result.
On another note, why does Yasunobu still hang out with Yamato even though Yamato's not as popular as he is at present? C'mon, the bath house days are over and Yasunobu already has a fan club of his own, why is he still hanging out with a not so popular and not self-confident Yamato? What is Yamato complimenting on Yasunobu
Well, to talk about something else. Anyway, I wouldn't mind reading a lot of Miki by any chance. We know she's friends with Suzuka but, details and more details would be good, I think.

Well, in case we really were looking at different versions of the manga, I downloaded the Animescans version of Volume 1 to see if that was different from the Del Rey version I've been looking at.
There are some minor differences in the translations, but what I'm reading (in both versions) about Yamato and Yasunobu just doesn't match up to what you guys seem to be saying.
Anyway, I give up: this just isn't worth arguing about.

i heard (actually read) that there was this special suzuka version.. it was like an alternate story..it shows what would have happened if Yamato saw Miki first instead of Suzuka.. anyone has a copy of this?..

Just a friendly debate I guess..
Others based their opinions on what they had read while other would dwell more on the context and stuff that aren't just out on the surface.
We are just giving out point of views and we don't necessarily have to agree at all.. though we could all agree on that we all enjoy reading this Manga of SEO Kouji
Alternate story...
Then the manga would be entitled Miki and not Suzuka or something like that
Doujin huh.. better look that up then..
after a few minutes...
so that's what Doujin is... nice!
I wish I'm that skilled to be able to continue alternates of those that I've read or watched

as I said before my goal isnt to bash or really even argue. Just varying opinions by different people based on what they read. Also, irregardless of how well translated any version is there is always going to be things that just dont translate well or are translated according to some bias the translator may have.
To be honest i would much rather get a lot of different opinions/views because no matter how well something is read its easy to either forget or flat out mis-read something.

Spoiler (highlight to view)
Suzuka's Dad's reaction was so inspiring but very unrealistic. He just smiled at him? and told him he won't financially back them up? WTH? i was expecting more of like "BRING OUT THE SHOTGUN" kind of reaction. well, at least the problems with both families has been resolved
