I'm looking for a manga that depicts a realistic war, with viable tactics and strategies. This by definition would probably be a seinen manga. It doesn't have to be historical, as long as things like formation, placement of troops, etc. are there.
I would prefer not to have "one-man armies" or "berserk super-units", as it breaks the illusion of reality. Highly intelligent minds are ok, but if it doesn't seem possible in reality (for the most part), then it probably isn't what I'm looking for.
My lists are public, but I have read Vinland Saga, Berserk, and even Otto Carius: Doromamire no Tora as examples. They are close to what I am looking for but they focus more on a single character that the battles itself.

Aren't most formations in modern military units only in place in order to give commanders a greater sense of purpose and the minions a greater sense of the need for following orders?
If it hadn't been considered so "uncivilized" for the centuries between its inception and the development of giant-ass military weapons like tanks and bombers, then the random-ass destructive potential seen in guerrilla warfare would have easily been seen as the most popular. But because the "civilized" people rejected it, only poorly-organized troupes with low funding could employ it, and it therefore never saw its maximum potential up until after the development of the A-bomb. And after that, as we know, no military action was ever going to be considered impressive again :/
tl;dr you're really looking for any manga with random-ass destruction, but you're _claiming_ to be looking for something as unrealistic as Advance Wars.

@HikaruYami
If that's how you view it then so be it. I haven't heard of your theory of why military formations exist before, but in my mind I always thought it was for purposes of organization. Coherence makes it easier for commanders to command. But I'm not here for a philosophical argument on military tactics. I just wanted to see if there were any manga that focused on it out there.
Why would I hide what I'm looking for? If I wanted random-ass destruction, I would just read Gantz.
Edit:
@Avian3 Thanks for the recommendation. It looks pretty good so far. Also nice sig. Prunus Girl <3

Formation in Ravages of Time is a bit too dreamy, although the strategem is real. Still the best manga out there though
For modern warfare, well, not very modern, try Gunka no Balzer.
For tactical bit and pieces, Jormungand is well suited.
For fantastic fantasy, Heureka is quite nice.
A side note,
I really dig this kind of manga. If you find something you really fancy, mind if telling me through PM?

Hm, this may not perfectly suit your tastes, but within Ichi can also be found some interesting historical aspects. They should be bound to the Bunkyu era (~ 1860?) and the happenings around the wish of the Tokugawa Shogunate to open the country for the foreign presence, which brings turmoil and some uproars (see Ch. 1). ^^"
