Personally, as it's called LiarxLiar I think it's logical to conclude that Tooru knows that Mina is, in fact, his step-sister. She's lying to him and he's lying to her back because he's deceiving her into thinking that she's deceived him (wow, lots of deceiving!).
What are your thoughts? Does he know? Or does he not?

I agree with you, I think he does know..but sometimes when I see him like he's just the type of guy who is surprised by something; But yeah, I think she's lying by being another girl, and he lies back just to make her think she's somebody else.

Spoiler (mouse over to view)
in the very first chapters, when she say: so does SHE really looks a lot like me?, (I don't know what she really said, but she put the SHE; I think he'll be smart and suspect something, because when he said she looked like someone he knew he didn't say who (so the girl just put the she), and let's face it...she could look like a boy, and he even took a picture to show it to the step-sister, and he never show it to the sister.

I don't know I think he's not stupid and he knows.

I also think Tooru knows that Mina is actually his sister, based off of some of the story so far/flashbacks and whatnot. I feel like they are both subconsciously attracted to each other but are unable to realize their own feelings because of the fact that they have been together as a family for so long, even if they aren't close.

One of the flashbacks that makes me think this...
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
When they give a glimpse of the past with Minato and Tooru meeting the first time as children, they both seem to get along very well and Minato is excited to have a brother. However, when they meet the second time, when their parents get married (I believe), Minato is still excited but Tooru seems to be unhappy with the situation. Granted they were young, so I don't think there was any sort of "love" feelings between the two of them, I think it's possible that Tooru was unhappy that Minato would become his sister. This would later lead up to them growing up and not being very close with each other. I also believe that this has to do with Tooru and his multiple relationships with women; he wants something that he can't have [Minato] so he seeks to replace the void with other women, but they are all shallow relationships with no love. I'm not sure if he realizes his feelings for her, but I do think they are there somewhere. Minato, on the other hand, is so disgusted by Tooru's relationships that she has a complex with germs and things that are "dirty," and I feel like it's an inadvertent defense mechanism for her.

Sorry that was a bit of a long-winded psych analysis. Hahaha.

If he does know, he's a good actor. Or he can convince himself that what Mina is saying is the truth.
Saying that based on chapter 11
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
where he cries when she tells him that her dad is being transferred to Ecuador and she has to go with him and thus needs to break up with Tooru - that panel of him crying is so cute/sad :o

But I think in Chapter 17 he might have figured it out, or have gotten a suspicion at least.

Btw: While it's an arduaous task (easily 15min per page) and some small things (mostly stuff written in hiragana) remain obscure, with a basic subbed-anime-induced understanding of japanese grammar, a good online dictionary (I'd recommend wadoku, but it's japanese>german) and (optionally) a clue of how to count strokes, it is very much possible to read the raws. The Furigana are very clear (just don't try reading the chapter titles, the mangaka used a very square-ish font there). But yeah, while it's not enough to translate it for others, it's enough to understand what's going on. wink

No, I don't think Tooru "knows" on a conscious level Mina is his sister.

I think [and agree with others] that it's pretty obvious at this point that they have a deep emotional attraction to one another on a subconscious level. Based on the flashbacks, I get the feeling that he has maybe seen her in that way ever since their adolescence, but Minato finding out about Tooru's sex life ruined or maybe tainted whatever non-platonic feelings that might have been between them. Or at the very least, it stunted them. If I wanted to take it a step farther, and this is just a conjecture, since we still don't know much about their past, I might even take a guess and say that living in close quarters with someone he desired may have partially led to Tooru's early sexual experiences or it could be the other way around and his sexual maturity may have given him more cause to notice her.

Also, the fact that they are living as siblings has probably led them to a wall or emotional blockade of sorts. They can't acknowledge this attraction, and to imagine more than a sibling relationship takes them to a place that's beyond their comfort level. It might also be that Tooru recognizes in some way that Minato's OCD cleaning obsession occurred soon after her catching him with that girl. He can sense that she's strangely ashamed or repulsed by his sexuality and that it manifests itself in her constant cleaning.

So, if we take all this into account, I get a picture of a repressed Tooru who is very, very much in love or attracted to Minato. He's not ready to acknowledge or show it any real way, but seeing a girl that looks exactly like her, it gives him an opportunity to act out his deepest fantasy and wants. He can be with a girl that looks exactly like Minato without the censure and the taboo of falling in love with his step-sister, who he no longer seems to have a real relationship any longer. That is the only logical reason I can understand why he so strongly denies that she's obviously his sister. He's willing to close his eyes to the lie because he wants to be with her and he can't or won't acknowledge what he feels for Minato.

In a semi-twisted way, she's like his substitute Minato. He can heap all the affection he has and wants to give to Minato to the "other" Mina. It's easier that way. So yah, what I'm getting at is that he doesn't really know at all, he's just in a very strong state of denial.

That's why I'm so addicted. I'm dying to see what his reaction will be when he finally does learn the truth. He seems so reliant and emotionally attached to Mina. What will happen when he finds that it was all lies?

I could be all wrong of course. Someone have mentioned that they think he knows and that he's just playing some game? But I get the impression that his feelings for Mina are very genuine. Unless he's a consummate actor and this is one of those shocker/twist manga where the brother is manipulative villain, then I think we have to take it on face value that he really believes that she's someone different.
