As the title says, I'm looking for some shoujo or josei in which the main characters (preferably both of them) have already been in love and/or(?) already had a relationship.

I would prefer:
-mature leads, both male and female
-drama warranted rather than drama made up for no good reason
-characters that talk to each other
-the love was requited or at least the female/male character moved on instead of moping about
-if ex-boy/girlfriends come back into it, any issues should be resolved quickly and in a mature way.
-the male lead actually has a personality instead of being "hot" and not much more.

I would prefer it if the series didn't have:
-the two characters falling in love in two seconds flat
-it wasn't a super sloooow romance either, ie. I don't mind it taking a while for the leads to fall in love, but when they do, they confess
-they did not break up then make up for petty reasons
-the main female character isn't a crybaby/naive/innocent/weak/stupid (either emotionally or academically. For the later, she should at least be average)/annoying
-the female/male lead thinks that now they've got a boy/girl friend their object of affections shouldn't hang out with members of the opposite gender

I don't mind smut (as long as it isn't gratuitous). NO hentai, yaoi, yuri, shoujo-ai, shounen-ai, shotacon, lolicon etc.

Examples: P.A., Ao haru ride

Don't mind where only one of them has been in love/a relationship before as long as it's in a similar vein to:
Mars, Kirai, Say I love you, Strobe Edge

...it's a sad state of affairs when I can only think of two (well, one really) manga where the characters have been in a relationship before.

Ah, seems like we are - more or less - thinking about the same things, while following the latest developments. Maybe. Anyways, it has been a while, since I have been reading the following stories, but - if I'm not mistaken - the relationships in those were quite mature and the developments rather realistic. So, you may give them a try, if you haven't done already ... ^^

Kanojoiro no Kanojo - Both female main characters have been in a relationship before, doesn't talk much in the beginning, but since they are strangers this should be normal. Right?

Nonchan to Watashi - Wort it's short while, even if the grown-up characters were kind of thrown back to their childhoood because of an unsolved issue

Yuru Koi and Heart no Ousama - Same here, worth a try?

Shuukatsu!! - Kimi ni Naitei - Even if the female lead is still in the process of maturing, because of her situation (Job hunting after university), he acts rather mature and is not only all-looks

Sukima Shiki - Well, not sure, but it was kind of interesting

Gozen 3-ji no Muhouchitai - This one should be quite a match to your description. ^^"

Thanks Yankee-chan ^^ I read Yuru Koi and Heart no Ousama and really enjoyed both of them ^^ Especially the fact that the first story in each was longer than a chapter smile

If anyone has any more suggestions? Please?

Check out Futago - One of my favorite manga-kas and none of her heroines are ever annoying, bratty, or childish in the same vein that most shoujo heroines are. If they ever happen to have those characteristics, it's a flaw that's generally used as a point of improvement/growth for the character. Both male and female protagonists are very mature in this series and there's none of the silly dilly dally that comes with shoujo like, wah, I don't think he likes me because we had this silly misunderstanding the other day.

I Love Her by Ikeumi Ryou. The art is a bit old, but for some reason, her works are always interesting to read. She's a great manga-ka in general, I seriously recommend you check out any of her other works if you haven't already. She has a lot of series that are usually labelled shoujo but they always have a very mature tone to them. Principal is her latest work, but I have no clue as to who the love interest will be yet. (Just in case you're interested)

As I come to think of it - H may also be a match, but - I'm not too sure, if it will suit your taste, because the characters can by times be a bit 'complicated', the storyline is quite dramatic and some people could think of the drawing style as ... old school? ^^"
