As most people would say, it depends on the series. Some are better in one form than the other, and some are only in one form. I'll watch a well-done anime over reading the manga version because the animation, color, and sound really add to it. But I hate when a series is redone in a different form and doesn't follow the original. I find that shojos are usually more enjoyable in anime form due to the color and voice acting (animation not really a factor since there's not much movement). However, I prefer the manga version of some longer series like Naruto, as I don't quite have the time to watch dozens and dozens of hours of a single anime. Shounen mangaka usually draw action scenes so they seem animated on the page, so I tend to stick to the manga versions.

Manga is nice since it's convenient and accessible, but anime is nice for added depth. Even though I can read/watch easily on even my phone, I hate being interrupted during an episode, so I only watch anime at home.

The manga option is winning on a manga site! *shock*

It really depends, but in general I prefer manga. The stories are usually better, longer, darker, deeper and more adult.

I really prefer the original media though, since adaptations pale in comparison more often than not.

E.g
Code Geass is an awesome anime, but I hated the manga.
Full Metal Panic and Kaze no Stigma, to name but two, are better in Light novel format.
I prefer Naruto and Bleach manga to their anime counterparts.

story-wise, manga is always better. but all the mangas i read are shoujo and josei, maybe some seinen. if it's shounen, especially action, i prefer it anime coz of the sounds and effects. biggrin

Th original wins.
Chose manga because there aren't that many orginal anime.
If it's a visual novel or light novel or game adaption, then anime is usually better, but it tends to rush or have it's own endings (which I dislike), while the manga is probably not even scanned or being released slowly at snails pace.

There are exceptions, such as an anime of a mainstream shounen manga depicts the fights better, although it seldom happens, because they add fillers and drag the pace of each episode to avoid getting too caught up with the manga.

Manga all the way. I just don't have time to sit through hours of animation, since reading a chapter takes only a few minutes. Animation isn't really that well done for all TV series, but I agree that shounen action mangas look a lot better animated.

However, I don't really like manga adaptations of anime, it just doesn't translate well after being spoiled with full-color animation. It's similar to driving a car 20 miles to work then switching to riding a bike. Nice exercise, but not the same experience. Anime-adaptations of manga are fine, since not all manga are full-colored.

Manga first, anime if I have the time and the story was absolutely-freaking-awesome.

manga
most of the time i have read/am reading the manga when the anime comes on

and in alot of cases i get pissed off at the bad choice in voice actors[i am talking about the japanese voice actors here]
Take genshiken as an example i really like the manga but i cant stand the anime adaptations bcoz most of their voices IMO were wrong
same thing with Azumanga Daioh a couple of the characters just does not work for me
Luffy in OP i just flat out hate...i liked her as Kururuin in DB but she is just so annoying as Luffy

i kind of like when Anime go on a diffrent route than the manga
most anime start when the manga have like 10-25 chapters and ends when the manga is nowhere near being completed
if they do a good job with the story they choose i usualy like it alot better than when they just copy the manga
i allready read the original so plz...give me a reason to watch this

thats one of the reasons why i like the ranma anime lol 70% of it is new material

If the anime is based on the manga, the manga is usually better... I really hate it if i know a story and liked it... and then the film (or anime) changes and spoils my fun -.-

However, if I am too lazy to read the manga first and start with the anime, i often like it better. There are just more influences on your senses like sounds and music, the way their voice sounds. i'm not the visual type, more like an acoustic lover laugh

So for me it is anime with the small condition that i must not read the manga of it^^

if the anime follows the manga's plot, then its the anime
most animes have amazing soundtracks and music with a story is very important to me
especially if its dramatic its much better when there's music along with the story

I prefer manga because I want the latest update in the story, so I can't wait until they make all of the manga into the anime. Plus sometimes it happens that they cut the story short with the anime- like ouran host club or kare kano. I will watch the anime version of some series when I have extra time thou.

Is this topic about adaptions? If so, I'd rather watch the original adaption.

If this is about manga in general and anime in general, then I'd have to go with anime since I grew up watching anime, and anime got me into Japanese music and wanting to learn the Japanese language, culture, etc. I've found out about seiyuus, popular actors and actresses.... lots of stuff. And watching anime has taught me silly phrases and words that I can say to my weaboo friends. I have more fun watching anime than reading manga. Plus, I can watch anime with friends.

I prefer Manga over Anime. Though there are some manga that shouldn't be adapted to anime, likewise some anime shouldn't be adapted to manga. It usually the original adaption that is good, while some adaptions are good, others are not. So I mostly read, but I wouldn't pass on some really really good anime out there. biggrin

Really, it depends.
I read Manga MUUUUUCH more than I watch Anime, but a lot of what I read is not adapted to Anime, so I can't compare here.
And, the few Anime I've watched were really great, but they were really "high class", I mean the drawings, the animation, the rhythm were really polished (I'm thinking about FMA brotherhood, Wolf's Rain or Death Note for instance.) Not to offense any fan, but I COULDN'T endure watching all of One piece in Anime for instance. (It was a good read though).

So, all told, I'm more inclined towards Manga, but the few Anime I've watched (or that I'm currently watching) were (are) really, really (really !) worth it. eyes

As much as I enjoy anime I prefer manga to anime. I feel like I could read manga more freely and often than watching anime. How does this make sense? I don't know how to explain. I guess I feel like I could do other things and read manga at the same time better than watch anime. I could read a chapter then start a load of laundry, read the next chapter then do some dishes. As oppose to watching a whole episode then starting a load of laundry or pausing mid episode (which I rarely do) then starting a load of laundry. That plus manga tends to be more detailed than animes.

For me manga > anime.
