Hello everyone!
I'm really out of romance mangas to read, so I'm interesed in what you think is the best. Anything is fine if romance is the main plot. If you recommend be one, please write a short description for it.

Gokinjo Monogatari, Kimi wa Pet, Lovely Complex and Hana yori Dango are the ones I tend to pick out as memorable, very nice romance mangas. There are definitely more, but I'll just stick with these four.

I especially like Gokinjo Monogatari because of Mikako, the protagonist. I and can relate to her by far. She is a creative, very odd and strong-minded - and she knows what she wants in every field... Except for love. She can be awkward, annoying and inept at expressing her feelings. She is by no means perfect. And still, she's a very good person. And as always, Ai Yazawa is good at creating engrossing stories, with life-like and flawed characters. I've reread this several times.

Kimi wa Pet opened my eyes to the josei genre. The mature female lead, Sumire, is so refreshing and easy to relate to. The whole summary about her getting a male pet makes it sound like smutty smut with smut, but that's definitely not the case. A very nice grown-up romance.

Lovely Complex is just too funny. How many times I burst into laughter while reading (and rereading and rewatching) this series. Risa and Otani are so perfectly balanced, it's amazing. This makes you go from laughing to crying to laughing to hiccuping. Very cute.

Do I have to say anything about Hana yori Dango? It's like the ultimate shoujo romance, super-stuffed with cliches, and I love it. If Lovely Complex is a roller coaster, then Hana yori Dango is the roller coaster with fifteen loops and a few tunnels here and there. smile wink grin

I really liked Mars. There are others that I'm forgetting at the moment, but I'll stick with one suggestion for now. The storyline's a little bit melodramatic at times, but definitely believable in terms of how the author establishes that (which btw, has other amazing works that are not romance). The art looks a little bit old-fashioned, but I don't know, I just really like the way it looks. Oh, I should probably talk about the story itself...it's the typical bad boy meets shy girl type, but it's a lot more than that, really. The story's kind of how when two different worlds collide, how would these lovers deal with it and a lot more other conflicts with a lot of psychological and emotional aspects and stuff like that. I'm sorry if this sounds like it's all over the place, I tried my best. laugh

Otoyomegatari - early 20th century or end of 19th century, middle east. A 20 year old woman (by local standards an old maid) gets married to a 12 year boy (by local standards almost an adult). The marriage was arranged, but they grow to love each other anyway.

Edit: added short description

Melo Holic many ups and downs, very emotional, sweet romance together with dark pasts, tragedy, drama, it's just a supreme romance rollercoaster

Bonnouji the cutest romance I've read so far, the characters are so innocent and adorable and funny

Spice & Wolf (Novel) best discussions and banter I've seen in romances so far, cute characters, the merchant at the age of 25 even more than the small cute wolf at times smile

Aishiteruze Baby it's pretty nice, it's my favorite romance biggrin
Edit: It's about a guy who never had to worry about anything in his life, but suddenly has to take care of his 5 year old cousin Yuzuyu, when her mother abandoned her. It's a very cute history with captivating characters.

Haha yeah, my bad, should have read the post.

Here are some of the good romance mangas I've read:
A Delicious Relationship tells about the story of a strong willed rich girl turned poor who embarked on a journey in cuisine because of her sharp taste skills. She experienced ups and downs, heartbreaks and such but she was able to cope up with everything.
100% no Kimi e tells about the story of a high school girl who fell in love with a guy who already has a girlfriend. typical storyline if you would think, but nicely executed.
Emma a historical manga which tells about the love story of a maid and a noble.
Absolute Witch a historical manhwa which tells about the story of a young witch and how she uncovered her true identity.
Cat Street is a coming of age story which tells about the story of a character who withdrew from the society and how she was able to slowly recover with the help of some people.
Strobe Edge another story of a girl who fell in love with a guy who already has a girlfriend.
Ao Haru Ride is a story about a high school girl who was reunited with her first love. good drawing and nicely executed.
Heptagon is a story of a girl who has some regrets and was given a chance to travel back to the past.
Haruyuki Bus is a collection of different love stories which revolves in the bus.
Tenshi Nanka ja Nai contains some bittersweet love parts, but has a great storyline.

Wow. Didn't think there would be so many responses biggrin .
I already read a lot of them, since I'm a really big manga fan myself, but there are a lot which I still haven't so I'm like really happy right now. Definetely will check them out.
Thank you very much.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Already read:
- Lovely complex: This one is really good. I only watched the anime, it was really heart warming and funny at the same time.
- Koukou Debut: Same as lovely complex, funny yet heartwarming. This one is really nice too.
- Kimi wa Pet: I started this because you guys recommended it, and it is just not my taste. Only read 3 chapters, but I think there will be too many obstacles, so I dropped it.
- Melo Holic: Read the first twenty chapters and out of curiosity I checked how it ends. One of the worst mistake of my life...
- Bonnouji: Really good one. It is kind of a change of pace, from all thos high school romances.
- Ao haru ride: This is one I'm reading right now, good plot, nice art, loveable characters.
- Strobe edge: This one has too much drama in my oponion, and she actually chose the guy who literally did nothing for her. I'm still so sad.

Well I'm not so into the high school romances, but let me be an adovcate for fantasy and historical romances:

Otoyomegatari - yep it is good, nice historical story, very innocent too, since the male character is a young teenager and it's more about their love growing. To begin with she's all maternal but then it becomes more than that.

The Queen's Knight I'm a sucker for any kind of forbidden romance however it's an aquired taste this manhua but it's my favourite. The girl falls down a ravene in germany and mets a "european" style knight, who asks her to be his Queen. She's supposed to keep spring in this world by being in love with the Knight, however if their love ever falters, winter will come to the land and everyone has to sleep until the guy brings a new Queen. Everyone tries to make it so she'll never fall in love with him in the first place but with someone else, so there's a whole love traingle thing.

Crazy Girl Shin Bia - A girl swaps places with a lady from a historical/fantasy parrallel universe, because this woman has foreseen her own death. However this girl from our world is a total slob and so unfeminine it's hard for her to pass off as the previous woman. The previous woman was on her way to get married to the hero, when she dies and switches places, so the heroine has to deal with him loving her when it's not really her he loves.

Tsuki no Shippo - The heroine is a terrible ninja but she wants to be a really good one. She ends up being given to the hero in marriage, since his previous marriage fell through (there's a prequel) she falls in love with him at first sight but he refuses to marry her until she becomes a proper ninja. It's really cute and quite funny bigrazz

Queen of the Nile and Red River are also good historical based romances, but QofN is a bit old fashioned so might not suit your tastes. Both of these are EPIC romances so they're like a 1000 books long (ha I exsaggerate)

Husky and Medley Based on a true story where a girl made an internet thread on 2ch seeking advice on finding out her friend's secret. Her friend is her crush, who is seemingly so perfect that it nearly drives her crazy. So, she plans to figure out her crush's one imperfection, one weak point. In the end it remains one of my ultimate faves because it isn't a romance people wish would take place, but one that actually has. Oh, and they're both girls.
