who is responsible for hiatus? Is it author or is it artist? If it's artist who screw it up then why they didn't just replace him? He's work isn't that great, so little change shouldn't hurt the story at all... Anyone have some info about it?

Sorry for my poor english bigrazz

You have no idea how changing an artist who's style is unique to himself could change everything story is great but the art pushed it further, its like saying lets replace all the artists of the current HST with other people......

First of all, Shouji's art is great. Secondly, I'm pretty sure it's the author, as Shouji seems to managing his doujin works and other ongoing serializations just fine. Actually, I think he put out an art book that has a lot of HotD's illustrations recently..

The drawings are average or good at best... don't get me wrong, I'm not saying they're bad. If I don't like the drawings in the manga, I'm not able to read and enjoy it. But certainly a better artist would not hurt the story. I even dare to say that he would diversified this story a lot. Shoujis drawings are sometimes amateurish and do not follow the same level... bodies are usually good, but he overdoing tits sizes. Some girls with normal or at least more realistic shapes would be nice but he's real problem is the faces that usually looks just crooked and misshapen. Hentai artist usually make the same mistakes in drawing and generally all draw very similiar, so I don't blame him for this (and yes i know that there is a lot of great artist that do hentai)... One of the few exceptions to this rule is OH GREAT!, with his drawings this series would be Superb... He has excellent art but can't build good plot for long... so it would be perfect exchange and it's really a shame that this will never happen.
Shouji on the other hand, handle plot pretty good, like with he's "Triage X" for example...Of course, you can immediately sense that only the drawings are the same and the story is weaker... but it can be read when you're really bored ...

You're probably right... that's a real shame, because it's obvious that author can never be replaced even if he's an asshole who can't treat he's work seriously... sad

Again, I'm sorry for my bad English and I really hope you understand what I mean...

Changing artists doesn't work the same way for manga as western comics. For comics in general art is a major selling point, though it's no greater than the story itself, but still important. When it comes to manga it's usually a small force behind it to make it work as opposed to western comics which have constant changing writers and artists. Also artists tend to set a certain feel to works that leave lasting impressions as well as designs, and if they have good chemistry with the writer you can see it. So changing an artist is a huge deal, and it could impact a lot for a comic, especially manga.
As for Shouji, his artwork is really good, if it's realistic looks you are aming for in terms of comics or manga, then stick with Walking Dead. Manga will always give unrealistic looks on characters, whether it's eyes, hair, or bodily proportions. Shouji is just sticking to the norm for him, in which case happens to be closer to ero style of drawing.

hey...the author may have great personal problem, you can't expect him to work on a series when he's under huge difficulties. whether or not it is his fault, whether he's just lazy or crushed by disease, i don't want to read something that is worked on half-heartedly.

i think changing artist is quite a big one. any professional artist know how to copy another person style, but the atmosphere it emit can be quite different.

I agree with all of the above. The faces do look really strange at times and so do the boobs. But, keeping aside the characters, the backgrounds and the weapons are done really well. And so are the zombies.

This.
Getting a "better" artist would change everything - and no one wants to build/start his career as "that guy who imitated that artist very well". The art is the main selling point of the title - not the story.

If you don't like the art, GTFO.
If you think the art is "amateurish", I'd like to see you do better.
If you want normal sized breasts, go read something non-ecchi.

Also, it's not his "fault" that he has his own manga to work on.

huh? Fault? Look the artist/writer team has done numerous works which never complete.

Why they never complete I would assume is lack of profits on the manga.

but its not on hiatus. its not continuing.

So HoTD is on permanent Hiatus? I really enjoyed the manga over the anime (which ends so abruptly). I really wish we could pull more information on what happened exactly.

i Dont know why people are quick to assume its the artists (Satou Shouji) fault. I think its probably the authors fault (SATOU Daisuke) cause Shouji is still putting out work right now like Triage X and other new manga/hmanga and The other one isnt. I dont know if maybe they had a falling out but yea i dont think its the artist. Plus i love the art for this series its prtty sharp and its its own unique style. He can draw realistic cause ive seen it but he has to make his own more "moe" and anime looking style for the readers/ editers. if you know a little about the business then you know they encourage that alot.

I like how everyone is so quick to blame the author, when it could just as easily be that the artist is too busy with his own manga to pen whatever his brother has written. And that's the thing, I remember hearing that the author has already written much more of the story...if that's true, then why isn't the author doing his job? Guess his own manga is more important.

And you know that how? This site doesn't track novels and Daisuke is a novelist. This site wouldn't(and doesn't) have all of his works cataloged. The fact that the artist is doing his own manga could very well show that he doesn't care about his brothers writing in light of getting his own popular manga out.

His novels so far:
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Novels

逆転・太平洋戦 史 Gyakuten Taiheiyou Senshi (Reversed Pacific War History)
信長シリーズ Nobunaga series
征途 Seito (Victory Road)
Red Sun Black Cross
侵攻作戦パシフ ィック・ストー ム Shinkou Sakusen Pacific Storm (Strike Operation Pacific Storm)
遥かなる星 Harukanaru Hoshi (Distant Star)
東京の優しい掟 Tokyo no Yasashii Okite (Gentle Rule of Tokyo)
虚栄の掟 Kyoei no Okite (Vanity Rule)
地球連邦の興亡 CHIKYU-RENPOU no Koubou (Rise and Fall of FEDERATION, EARTH)
皇国の守護者 Koukoku no Shugosha (Imperial Guards)
鏖殺の凶鳥 Ousatsu no Huckebein (Genocider Huckebein)
黙示の島 Mokushi no Shima (Apocalyptic Island)
平壌クーデター 作戦 静かなる朝のた めに Pyongyang Coup d'État Sakusen - Shizukanaru Asa no Tameni (Conspiracy of Coup d'État in Pyongyang - For the Peaceful Morning)
And some other short stories

This doesn't even include his work for other manga and even games.

Wait... so does anyone know the actual reason for the hiatus?
