I want to see what the next gen consoles from Xbox and Sony do but I really can't imagine an more improvements in the graphics front.

LOL are you kidding me? Do you know how far behind consoles are in the graphics department? laugh

Forgive my ignorance and tell me how far behind consoles are? I know real engine's next installment will improve things like lighting, rendering and things like that from what I have seen; I just don't know if the average human eyes can really spot the differences (happy to admit my ignorance).

Btw I am really looking forward to Bayonetta 2 and hope it comes out sometime next year

already have my deluxe pre-order and just waiting to Ebay it as soon as I get it. Get quick cash for not being lazy and placing a pre order early.

It does have an extensive list of games and even though I will get it on launch day, I will probably stay away from most games already out on other systems. I don't think a lot of the early third party games on other systems will do a good job of utilizing the gamepad.

Rather laughing than anything else when heared that with 1080p capacity, the Wii U's going to close the gap because now quality won't increase as fast as before. Here's a demo released this year by Square Enix, and one from Epic Games, both with real time graphics. I would hardly believe the PS4 and the new Xbox unable to render those.

However, the lack of hardware quality isn't what hinder a software's graphics the most. Super Mario Bros has a cute and immersive world, which I find way more realistic compared to the non-coherent textures of Call of Duty : elements of Mario games are made to fit together, whereas CoD is a pale and bleak imitation of real life... That said, my ideal is for sure a HD well-designed game.

I have the impression Nintendo is, rather than going further in the path of new gameplays which is its sacred playground, trying to gain back clients by copying Sony and Microsoft with their hardware stuff. Definitely not Nintendo's strongest point, moreover it could rely on its good designers to compensate for it. I hope it will continue making new accessories and other funny ways to play, but the Wii U looks pretty much like the bad mixing of a Wii and a Xbox 360 with no improvement. I would have liked more a console with no improved graphics but a revolutionary handling, but I'm saying this on the basis of trailers showing but graphic upgrades. At least I can say I find Nintendo's advertisements hella bad.

Can't afford not to buy, though, primarily due the to The Legend of Zelda & Super Smash Bros franchises. Hard to be a fanboy...

For a blatant, obvious idea of what the future holds, think of CG movies. Something like wall-e still can't be rendered in real time by consoles. Yet.

As far as where consoles are currently falling behind? They use lower resolution textures. Particle effects don't interact with other objects. They have low draw distances. They have unrealistic plant life. They have sparse plant life. Shadows don't have a realistic range or interact with character models as well as they could. They can't render a large amount of characters simultaneously. And a bunch of other stuff.

I see your point but wonder if such feats will ever be accomplished with game consoles as we know them. I think we will get there eventually but with something totally different, like say "immersed virtual reality gaming" (if that even means anything lol). I just read the specs sheet of the Wii U and its analysis, which basically said it is almost equivalent to the next gen xbox (20% difference). If true then hopefully I can enjoy games that would be on next gens without the watering down issue that has plagued Wii

Where did you read that, as I was informed neither IBM, AMD or nintendo has revealed much other than it will feature a GPGPU which as I understands it makes it a developers wet dream!

Here are the specifications for the Wii U

I won't say it is equivalent to the next gen Xbox and PS (I know nothing yet, just kind of... feel that way, it's coming earlier and it follows the Wii, so), but it is still better than current one, in terms of power and graphisms, so I guess it won't be as down as the Wii. Just worried that Nintendo counts only on that and make no improvement elsewhere. But, who knows ? There are being very secretive, so that might be some advertisement strategy... Even if it feels weird.

x0mbiec0rp made quite a decent post, there. I don't think your immersed virtual reality gaming (lol at the name, huh) will come true before a long time - but if it could get like Yureka without the problem stuff, I would just throw off any gamepad.

Lack the money to get it, other stuff are of higher priority,
like a better motherboard and a new chassis.
Not sure why I'd need it either, the new Pikmin would be nice though.

I haven't played Pikmin so I don't get all the hype. I guess I will find out once it comes out
