I want to read mangas about religion and how it might appear in a society.
Something like Lord of the Flies.

(If there are no mangas, Novels are fine too. As long as they are good)

http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?category=religion& perpage=50

A good way to start is to always search for the tags and categories wink

I should probably be more specific. I want mangas whose main theme is religious, as in the main topic is cults and religious deception of people.

It's not that easy to tell from the category page.
BTW, I don't like Josi and Shojo

Thanks

Well, what I have found now just quickly is Shinyaku Seisho and Jesus (YASUHIKO Yoshikazu)

If you would like to do some work with it yourself then these two searches got all those things you didn't want excluded and first one got cults and second one religion as the category, third one is occult, it is under religion and cults etc but not directly what you said.

When you ask for help with finding manga then you have to expect to do some job yourself, I don't mean to be a bitch against you but right now you sound a bit like a spoiled brat.

No, this is exactly what this thread is for.

I'd say 20th Century Boys and Death Note, especially at the peak of Kira's power would give you something like that.

Religious deception of people, well you got all the ones about the witch hunts of medievel times...
like knights and pilgrim jager

Shingeki no kyojin has religious deception

Claymore has it all, shady organisations, deception, secret cults, religion, holy cities, etc

D.Grayman and Ao no exorcist are about religious factions (mostly kept secret from society) that speciallises in exorcising demons, so a form of religious deception, but more secrecy

Arisa has a strong cult theme, its shoujo but i thought id put it in anyways

Ubel Blatt has something like the effect you're looking for, only this is deceptive hero worship on a national level,
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
11 (i think) heroes go out to save the kingdom from its evil neighbour, and then 7 of them decide they don't want to go on further because of cowardice, the remainder go on to finish the mission but when they return to the others they're ambushed and killed. The 7 go back and pretend the others had been the traitors and they had saved the kingdom. Sparking national hero worship closely ressembling a religion or cult.

Aphorism has some things to do with gods decieving the students and with-holding various truths

No.6 hasn't got a religion, but the city itself and the higher echelons are decieving the people.
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
Its sort of like an aeon flux or matrix scenario where everyone in this city go about their daily lives thinking everythings fine and they can't afford to think not to because they swear alliegance to the city each day and are closely monitored but there are actually a lot of cover ups and people go missing and behind the scenes the city isn't what it seems

sorry, the last ones are very loosely connected, more cults than religion, and more deception than cults XD

you would love Believers.

Marie no Kanaderu Ongaku is based on religion that raised up after apocalypse.

Eden: It's an Endless World! this is very loosely connected, but theres something about religion at the end.

Thanks a lot for all the suggestions.
I already read 20 Century Boys and Death Note and loved them
I am also reading Believers and loving it (that's what sparked my interest in this theme but I wasn't sure what the focus of the manga is).

@Tsubamex, thanks for all the suggestions. They all seem interesting

believers definitely
also, one of the stories in Endo Hiroki Tanpenshuu discuss religion and give a little insight into why a person would choose not to believe in god(which was interesting for me as a believer)
