War themed story. It doesn't need to be action packed, but the war must be on focus (like some war drama). Maybe with a bit of comedy or romance, but not too much. Some real war and action would be real nice.
I don't want these settings: Medieval, feudal Japan, China.

Lol. Actually, I'm looking for modern war. World Wars (or alternative history), near future, far future and all that stuff.
Cat Shit One - Vietnam
Hellsing - Nazies
Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind - Post Apocalyptic
GUNNM - Futuristic cyberpunk dystopia
Break Blade - Mecha
Saikano - Modern setting but more psychological and romance
Love Story, Killed - Oneshot modern war
Pre-Industrial:
Historie - Ancient Greece
Shut Hell - Mongolia
Shin Angyo Onshi - feudal Korea

Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio
And, how "modern" do you want the war?
Shoukoku no Altair could fit. It's not medieval, and it's Turkish history.
Gunka no Baltzar is set in a fictional parallel of the industrial era, and while there's no war in the manga yet, the entire thing is basically about military warfare.
Also, seconding Shin Angyo Onshi, Shut Hell, and Historie, even if they're not exactly modern.

Thanks everyone.
Post-industrial. However, I wouldn't mind a less modern setting, as long as the tecnhology isn't restricted to only swords, bows, etc. That's why I excluded medieval/feudal.
Canons, tanks or at least gunpowder would fit better (of course, laser guns and flying ships are allowed too).

Pumpkin Scissors and Valkyria Chronicles (but the game is probably better than the manga as it was vastly superior to the anime).

Mitsurin Shounen - Just read this one recently. Set in Cambodia and its ongoing war against the Vietnamese. Told through the POV of a child soldier. Great read.
