Hi there^^

I'm thinking of buying another game console, but I'm not sure which one. I got no idea which one of the ones out there is good and has good games.
I just love portable game consoles and I grew up with GB, GB color, GBA and finally I got an Nintendo DS, but the new one doesn't need to be a portable one.

My preferences are:
-adventure and RPG games (like Zelda, Golden Sun,Dragon Quest, FF and my all time fav: Tales of...,) and action games (like One Piece, Giant Battle)
-good graphics of the games, preferably in anime style, but I absolutely hate that 3D style which is all rough and ugly, like it's sometimes on the Nintendo DS (ex. Golden Sun - Dark Dawn)
-nice sound
-easy to handle- I like buttons, but am not really a fan of touch pads...

So has anyone an idea which one would be good for me?
Thank you very much for your advice biggrin

The games that you just mentioned sound like you want a Nintendo console. In that case, get the Wii U. It is the latest console on the market and has been claimed to have the best gaming graphics to date (beside PCs). As far as games for it, I've heard a lot of people say that Darksiders II is a great game if you are a Zelda fan. If you want to know what the game pad feels like, drop buy your local Best Buy and try it out at the Wii U demo station.

Let's see.. Soundwise, you get what your TV, headset or audio systems put out. There won't be any major differences with this if you're getting a non-portable console.

Wii U is the one with superior hardware right now, but on the long run it is once again the x.5 generation console. Not a bad choice atm, but expect to miss some multi-platform releases 4 years from now. Ofc, you will miss out on releases even sooner if you get a PS3/XB360 unless you upgrade to the next generation later on.

I'd say your choice should really with the game library of your choice, as you can get used to any controller type in time (PS3 vs XB360 vs Wii U) if you don't have particulary small or large hands. Without any deeper research on it, I'd say PS3 has the largest collection of the games for your preferences, though I think the 360 did "steal" a few exclusives. I have no idea how much they are going to port old PS3/XB360 entries to fill out the Wii U library. Just the fact that Nintendo will publish Bayonetta 2 is a huge feather in their cap in my books.

Overall, the largest library of such games is still for PS2 due to the fact that you can play PS1 games on it as well, but they will not have good graphics bigrazz Just ordered a new PS2 myself, since my old one has died on me just when I was on the mood for some Persona 4 (the Vita version will have to wait 'till I'm in a mood to get one).

^Darksiders II is a crossbreed between God of War and Devil May Cry -action games and zelda-like dungeoneering, some Metroid-vania exploration aaand some diablo-esque loot funk. There are people for and against its cartoonish vibe. I like it, someone else might not. It is a bit macho.

TL : DR. Best on the long run for now, Wii U. Best for currectly available games catering to your needs, PS3. No choice is optimal right now, since we are in the twilight of the currect console generation.

Edit. Greydrak's post below is good stuff. Take heed.

Thanks I'll think about that and try it out smile although the newest wii could still be a bit too expensive for me^^ Darksiders looks nice...
Well, it doesn't need to be a Nintendo. It's just that in the past I didn't have as much money and I couldn't really decide on which console I to get. So I practically never tried other ones, except for the PSP for a really short time, which I actually liked, but it was my brother's so I didn't get to play with it very often smile

Edit: Okay now I start tending to the PS2. I already found some nice looking games while browsing at amazon. But does that mean you can't play ps2 games on the ps3?
Soundwise I meant more like epic backgroundmusic. Zelda Link's Awakening is one of my favorite games and the quality of the music is shit, but the songs are still amazing biggrin But I guess that's too specific and depends mostly on the game itself... so you can probably pretty much skip this. But ifsome game with really good music come to your mind, I'll still be glad biggrin

Might make it easier if you list out some options you're considering too, since there's quite a lot of devices out there for gaming...

And from the looks of it, if you do decide on another handheld, the 3DS XL is a good one.
Much smoother buttons and way more comfortable than the original 3DS, huge library of games and can play DS games as well (even import ones, so long as they're not DSi enhanced) so you can import a good selection of anime games too.

The Wii U is a bit of a difficult one to recommend unless you're actually interested in the library that's currently known since we're about to go into another phase of 3rd party trash games after the system's release.

PS3 has its share of anime style games, not as many as the PS2 due to western publishers not shelling out for the licenses and titles, but the system is region free and can play games from any/most regions so you're fine if you end up importing them.

I don't recommend the 360, since it's a super old hardware and its games are likely to be found on the PS3 as well, not to mention their community is, not that great.

Other handhelds, like the PSP, PSVita, are ok, but Vita's start up cost is ridiculous, not to mention the DRMs employed on that system is really annoying. So unless there's a game that you're dying to play on those two, I'd stay away for a while, at least until Sony stops gouging people for memory cards (PSVita is download based mostly, and they don't limit the file sizes, so some games can take up an entire memory card).

Bottom line, look through the games that each system have, and will get, and then decide which system has the most games that you want to play as your priority system. Always look at the games, because without them, these are just crappy internet browsing machines...

laugh your last sentence so true^^ I had thought of getting a PSP, since I kind of liked the screen and gameplay, but I didn't find many interesting games for this, so it's probably not the best choice and with what you've said, I can probably exclude this one...

Well, I'm not a fan of the DS, because of the touch function (I'm just too bad with this -.-) and the 3D which looks a little rough in my eyes on anime art, I can't really name what bothers my with that, since I also played PS games on emulator and there, it didn't bother me as much...

So for options it would still be:
Nintendo Wii
PS2 or PS3, but I guess I tend to PS2 unless you can play those games on PS3 as well...

Nope, PS2 games don't work on PS3 unless you manage to find yourself one of the first generation US models that actually have the same chip or processor or whatever that PS2 has.

Since you mentioned games with really good music, I warmly recommend two PS3 entries.

Jorney is a PSN exclusive game with very beautiful visuals and music, and a brilliant atmosphere to boot. Kinda short, but it lasts for multiple reruns, easily.

Nier is the swansong of Cavia, who made a few unique games. The game does have a few faults, but the critics were a bit harsh on its visuals and whatever else you may think of the game, it's soundtrack is pretty much without equal. Seriously, check it out in Youtube. The story is kinda bleak and much like it's predecessor, Drakengard, the story progression is kinda like a hole that you dig deeper all the time. Expect no happy endings.

Those are the two that come first to my mind when we're talking about memorable game music.

Hm then I'll probably get the PS2, as it's much cheaper now if I buy it used and when the PS3 has gotten a little less expensive I'll buy it. I don't want to miss games with good music so I'll defenitlely have a look on those games. smile

Another question: I stumbled upon the Gamecube, but don't really know where to put this... I have heard about this console, but not much and I had thought that it was much older... but it seems that it is even newer than the PS2. So what about this one? I saw that there are even Zelda games for this one...

There aren't that many games for gameube. Graphics are quite limited. However, since you like Tales of... there is Tales of Symphonia on that console.

On the other hand, there is Tales of the Abyss (and a couple other tales of games), Persona 3 and 4, Kingdom Hearts, etc on the PS2 laugh
