So a few months ago I created a facebook so that I could stay in touch with a few of my close friends abroad because I moved. I had one from 2009 till 2010 and it was like really used like I had photos and 30 likes on each picture and like 400 friends but after a while there was so much drama on there and it got hard to keep up with people so I just closed it lol

Now that I have it again like people aren't online anymore and they don't upload as many photos except some people but then they don't visit their facebook as well. I kinda just have one profile pic which is blocked from clicking and like no other photos because I don't even use my facebook honestly anymore...I mean what's the point when no one's on it anymore just as I predicted...so like I just go on once a week to send a message to my friends abroad and that's about it...and sometimes I check the news feed of my fav celebs lol

I remember that I only knew half of the people of the 400 friends I used to have on it and it was so weird now that I think about it having people who are not your friends lol I also now only have 50 friends who are just very close to me and no people that I met once or a friend of a friend because what's the point? In the end all those people who have a 100 likes on their photos and random people posting on their timeline don't really even know those people in the end and later in their life will only have their close friends...don't we all? It's impossible to know 50 people well and stay in touch with them constantly let alone 500...yeah right XD

So what I'm asking you guys is what do you think about facebook? Should it have ever been invented? Did it ruin cyber life in the way that just having an MSN was good enough? Do you guys use your facebook or just like me have 50 friends and no pics lol? Do you think facebook will die out like myspace in the future? Will it survive with all these new apps like Instagram and stuff? Do you like it? or do you not like it because it ruined friendships with people in a way? Thanks ^_^

I think a thread discussing Facebook is a few years too late.

On topic: yes, I have an account and I primarily use it to stay in touch with friends, actually that's all I use it for.

It's not a bad invention. I use it mainly for family events and groups. I could code a better one myself for those purposes, but people wouldn't use it anyway.

Hundreds of millions of people use facebook on a daily basis. In fact, it's at the highest active user count it has ever reached. To say it is dying is laughable.

How much use you get out of it is entirely dependent on -you-. I find certain age groups, particularly those just out of high school and college, seem to be more active. (These are the two times when you really part with good friends and have no other way to conveniently keep in touch.)

The average amount of time spent on facebook per person has dropped, however. I think people have begun to figure out how to incorporate it into their day to day life, as opposed to letting it dominate everything they do. This is a good thing.

[edit] I've ruined a couple friendships via political posts on facebook. I'm glad for it though. I might never have learned how bigoted my 'friends' were otherwise. And that's the type of person I'd rather not associate with. [/edit]

You could say I'm kind of outdated - I don't have a facebook account, and I don't really plan on creating one. I liked the way internet looked like in the early 2000's. With forums, emails and communicators like gg (Poland). About faceboook...
First thing is I really care about my privacy, I don't like the idea of my personal data being used by some corporation (it sounds soooo lame~), partly because the privacy policy it has is based on US law - which is less strict than the ones we have in EU, and partly because I'm an university student, and I'll be looking for a job soon, and one of the things employers check is facebook (though it's illegal).
Second - if someone is not close enough to call him, via phone or skype, or write an email to him than.. what's the point in keeping in touch?
The only reason I think it might be useful is when people from my grade are discussing on facebook some things connected with studies - the schedule, tests and so on - but then again we used to have our faculty's forum, but it had died.. around the same time facebook got popular.

I agree with what chrum wrote
I had it for... maybe a year, but I canceled it 7 year ago... Before it got popular in my country and before they started changing it drastically...
I don't regret it and I can live without it with no problem smile

To tell you the truth, I don't find facebook bad at all, it all depends on how one uses it I suppose. I've had an account since 2007 and I probably can say its still useful then as it is now. Its a useful tool if you're a college student as I can always message someone even my professor about some work I don't understand or don't have and they reply quickly rather than sending a email in which they rarely check. Also, the college I go to created a page called " What professor not to get" as a way to spare students from getting awful lecturers and I can't tell you how much that have helped me.Other than that, I use it as a messenger, I talk to my firends who don't live here anymore, atleast everyday and I get to video chat with them. Anyway, like I've said before, its how people use it. I use it for school purposes and friend purposes while people like my little sister uses it to store millions of her pictures.
