Densetsu no YĆ«sha no Densetsu (or like this)
The legend of maian

Blood Monday
Tal
Mx0
City of Dead Sorcerer
Jio to ougon to kinjirareta mahou (not like this much)
E'S
Tena on S-String
Tiji-kun
Mahou Sensei Negima (not so serious..)
Wolf Guy
Code: Breaker
Bleach (and all the famouse one like one piece ecc.)
Mahou tsukai kurohime

Tower of God Good manga but way over-rated.

Mahouka Koukou no rettousei

Have you tried reading the novels (which is the original source of this series, btw) on Baka-Tsuki?
If you like them, on the same site there is Campione! which is arguably on par with MKnR.

Try Pandora Hearts or D. Gray-Man. Both of these are shonen, but there is a lot of "hidden power" in them.

Although "Campione!" is one of my most favorite novels, I'd not dare comparing a Great piece of work and a rare Gem like "Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei" with a common light read like "Campione!"

If you were simply saying that both of them are equally enjoyable to you, that wouldn't be a problem, since it'd be your own personal taste(i.e., related to a subjective matter). But stating something like "it's arguably on par with MKnR" is just wrong.

'Rosario to Vampire' can't be compared to "Death Note" just because it's really fun to read.
Even a super-popular manga like 'Negima!' can't be compared with "Death Note" just because someone finds it quite enjoyable.

What I'm trying to say is, understand the difference between a Great Work and an Enjoyable Work.
The value of an attractive artificial jewellery isn't even worth comparing to a Diamond jewellery.

'Campione!' didn't make it even in top 50 in the KLNgS 2013 novel Ranking, even after getting an anime.
And the MC also didn't make it in top 20 Best Male Characters ranking.
On the other hand, "Mahouka..." secured 12th position in in the KLNgS 2013 novel Ranking, even without getting an anime.
And the MC secured 7th position in top 20 Best Male Characters ranking.
Furthermore, MKnR has a relatively difficult to understand context and is therefore avoided by many people who don't want to bother with too much detail. But despite that, it still beat 'Campione!' with a great margin.
All these facts speak for the Greatness of this novel.
So, there's no real comparison between the two except the fact that both are enjoyable.
Hence, something like 'Campione!' can't even dream about being on par with "Mahouka Koukou no Rettousie".

"A fun read isn't worth comparing to a Great read."

LOL!

IMHO:
being Italian I can say with total confidence that the author of Campione! has been in Italy, did research on Italian places, Italian society (books 3-4 were amazing on this aspect), did research on mythology, and put in a gazillion of funny reference to the Italian Serie A (football league) that made me rotfl everytime. If you're not familiar with mythology and Italian culture, you miss half of the fun. Just the comparison Athena-Earth Goddess of Ancient Europe, which is based on a study by scholar Marija Gimbutas (google her if you don't know her) and it's something that it's been studied on an university level (I did an "cultural anthropology" course about her) easily sweeps away all the technobabble of MKnR and its sis-bro-con that made it popular because Japanese people dig that stuff. Japanese teens don't know squat about Europe, so I'm totally sure they just buy Campione! for the softcore porn and that's why it's less popular than MKnR. Of course you're allowed to say that's MKnR is superior to Campione! just because it is ranked higher, but you have to accept that Oreimo, Baka Test, Yahari Ore no Seishun Rom-Com wa Machigatteiru, Rokka no Yuusha are clearly superior works for the same reason and not because Japanese people like tsundere, imouto, eroge and boobs.

Putting my rant aside, if we really want to talk about masterpieces, read Hakomari guys, which is #1 rated novel in this database (and I don't think it's even in the top 50 in KLNgS) and let me know what you think. smile

Non-supernatural

Banana Fish - Ash is a genius in both intellect and skill. He doesn't really try to hide it, but he doesn't really embrace it either. Plus, even his closest allies aren't aware of exactly how good he is or why. The story is very complex, gritty, and very realistic. I highly recommend it.

Skip Beat - Ren is hiding his true indentity.

Supernatural

Kuroshitsuji - Ciel often hides behind the mask of a young boy, but actually it is Sebastian who has the hidden power.

07 Ghost - There are so many hidden identities and concealed powers in this manga I don;t know where to start. It is a rollercoaster of revelations. Just read it, you won't regret it.

Nabari no ou - I've not finished this yet, so not sure how it ends, but Miharu has an immense hidden power.

Psychic Academy - This may suit you if you liked Mx0 (though it was a bit ecchi for my tastes, just warning you now). Ai's true power is unknown to most, even himself. My problem with this manga was that they wasted a good storyline
Spoiler (mouse over to view)
(evil organisation controlling psychics)
to focus on the ecchi and romance. E's is much better. Read this if you just want to kill some time without needing to focus too much on the story.

Oresama Teacher is pretty close to what you are looking for. The main character used to be a delinquent, but wants to start anew at her old school, so she's hiding it. However, she still ends up fighting and rather comically hides her identity. The manga is pretty big on the comedy though, so the romance (I'm not even sure if I can call it as such) is really, really slow.

Just because the author has made good use of those references doesn't make the story as a whole any better. It's based on a very simple plot and shares common traits with tons of other works.
Just because you're an Italian doesn't mean you should overestimate it on your personal basis.
We're talking about the storyline(that makes the novel what it is), not the use of references(that add bonus features to the story).
We're talking about the main course, not about the side dishes.
And sorry to say, but explaining science with magic in a way that it seems real is much better than comparing those ancient gods a great number of people don't even believe in.
Research on mythology won't help anyone but the person themselves, while research on science would benefit everyone. Science is far superior to Mythology. Something simply mythical, the so-called Mythology isn't even worth comparing to something as Great as Science.
Science is the very reason we're even able to reply to each other like this.

As for the ranking, Oreimo and Baka Test have been adapted as an anime and the novel context is quite easier to understand unlike MKnR, and are therefore much more popular than MKnR.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Rom-Com wa Machigatteiru, Rokka no Yuusha are the only ones who secured rankings higher than MKnR without an anime, but still since Yahari Ore no Seishun Rom-Com wa Machigatteiru is going to be adapted to an anime this year, it was bound to attract attention. So again, we can't deny its popularity being influenced by the coming anime.
Only Rokka no Yuusha truly deserves deserves its position. And again, since I've read that novel, I know its context is quite easier to understand unlike MKnR.
Therefore, MKnR shows itself as the currently emerging BOSS of ongoing LNs.

That's it for now.
