This week's poll was sort of from a suggestion by Havenc1, but not quite what he/she had in mind. But anyways, fanfiction is a fan-written story for a particular series. Perhaps it's a new or changed plot. Or there's more (better?) romantic pairings than the original series has. I decided not to have an option about writing fanfiction, but I'm sure some of you do that! As for my personal vote: I never read fanfiction. I'll stick with the original stuff.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Optimal story length
Choices:
Lots of volumes with short chapters - votes: 1203 (11.5%)
Lots of volumes with long chapters - votes: 5142 (49%)
Just a few volumes with short chapters - votes: 371 (3.5%)
Just a few volumes with long chapters - votes: 3777 (36%)
There were 10493 total votes.
The poll ended: February 2nd 2013

Due to the low numbers, it seems like less and less people are voting on these polls. Probably my fault...

Seldom

Some are pretty good, but whether the story continues or not depends upon the whims of the author, and you'll be lucky if the story continues at all, or get new chapters every other year.

Never. I have many pet-peeves regarding fan-fiction and yet I read so much doujinshi bigrazz
I suppose I just don't feel like going through the thousands available out there just to find, what might not even be, one decent read. Gave up on that idea long ago.

Edit: oh how times have changed, I am now an avid ff reader xD

Personally, the only reason I don't vote in the polls very often is because I'm too indecisive to pick an one option lol. bigrazz

I used to read a lot of fanfics, but now only when I'm desperate for a certain pairing and I've exhausted all my other sources.

I can read fanfics for some series, but there are other which I can't, because I like the story "as is." I especially like to read fics about characters who are insane/mental. They usually don't get as much screen time in the original story as I'd like. laugh

Sometimes.

There is only one series whose fanfics I read. So it isn't that much difficult to complete them. Noblesse has got many talented fans whose fanfics are really worth reading.

I stick to the original story. If the author writes more about it, i may read it, but not if its been written by a fan.
Although i'm okay with doujinshis. bigrazz

Who needs fanfics when you have a beautiful thing called imagination?

Used to read them all the time. I can't remember the last time I read one.

By now they should probably be kept to a biweekly or monthly affair. There aren't that many manga-related poll topics to cover that will interest the masses every week~ Maybe it is time to do the 'Best of x' polls~ : D

Wait, do doujinshi count as fanfiction?

We got plenty of poll suggestions though. They'll just keep getting backed up if we don't do every week

I like the weekly pools, from time to time a really good idea show ups. Personally i don't read fics, i had tried reading some but mostly to occidental things (that tend to have really open endings which the fans try to close on their own)
Manga tends to have a clear ending so i really don't care about fics for that.

One needs to differentiate between purely written fanfiction and drawn fanfiction. Written fanfiction, I never read (I'm not a big fan of visual novels either), but I do follow dragonball multiverse for example, which is an incredibly well drawn fanfiction.

I tend to dislike any kind of work if it's not from the original author or part of the official publication.
Fanfics, AUs, etc., all seem kind of fake to me, as in they never ever happen or even will happen in the universe of the actual characters. In addition, they also do stuff that the author would never do or allow. They're characters based on what the fanfic writer or fanbase thinks they should be instead of who they really are.
I don't mind the occasional "what if," but arghhhh.... I hate reading fanfics because in my head they just aren't real.
It's why I don't usually read mangas that are based off of novels and animes and why I'm bothered when any kind of work remade in another medium doesn't exactly follow the original, like in movie/anime adaptations (though I do concede necessary budget/production changes)
