If they had used "dislike" or "the least likely to read" there wouldn't be as many answers.
I didn't read everything but there are several frictions concerning homophobia already -------so using the term hate isn't that bad. It provokes answers. Be it, to tone the own vote down, to explain the own point of view or the to do the most human thing there is: poke on other people statements.

I picked Hentai for it is the genre outsiders tend to judge us by. And I really don't like having to explain people that reading manga does not necessarily mean having a tentacle fetish or being a pedophile or anything like that.

Didn't vote, partially because I keep forgetting that the poll is retarded and once you click "Show results" you can no longer vote. But I would've kept it blank anyway. My three least favourites (below) --that I might still read-- all possess some good qualities in general, and since I haven't touched any of the others, who am I to say that I wouldn't enjoy them.

Shoujo - Read a few that I liked immensely even though in general I hate the art and narrative-style TO DEATH. The narration in particular is often of the "Oh! Great"-quality, whose name is by far the most ironic author-name in the world. You frackin' suck, Oogure.

Yaoi/Shounen-Ai (Whatevs) - Only watched the anime of both, but I liked both Yami no Matsuei and Gravitation, the latter being a love-story that I really, really rooted for in the end. Oh, and Fake (?) was great as well.

Hentai - fuck yeah, I've fapped to it countless times. When the art isn't grotesque and they are SHAVED. When hentai's good it's "Sexstory X Porn" and that is a fantastic combination, since the former lacks visuals and Porn lacks story/real desire. Oh, and properly made doujinshis are frickin' nice. Some characters in other genres really gets me going, and it's always nice to see them naked, among other things.

I was expecting Hentai to be more hated, though. I remember being seriously shocked -from skimming and posting on the forum a couple of years ago- by the amount of naive innocence and prudity (if it doesn't exist, I just made it up.) around here when it came to sex/nudity.

If it's overused, badly-made or if you just get teased over and over again, and never get to see any NIPPLES, Ecchi is by far the worst thing out there, for above stated reasons and more. And why the frack do I want to see up someone's skirt to get a look at their teddybear-panties?! Innocence/virtue is a major turn-off.

Lol, I doubt this is the reason. It's more acceptable because it's two females, period. There are more men who are into manga and there are more men on here. Plus the lesbian and bisexual women.

It's quite clear you miss read what he wrote, "things that are not like them" =/= "Gay", it's not that in nature there are no "homophobic" animals, it's just that animals are much less likely to live and let live than humans, if it is natural for them to have sex with anything then there is no problem, but in nature if you step outside the line you are killed, just look at the Baboons or any other social Mammal for the mater. Regardless the Homophobia in humans is mostly due to education, males are raised with quite a strong repression in that aspect, something than a human female could hardly understand. If you show people a Girl behaving like a boy we say she is "Tomboyish", if you show a Boy acting like a girl we call him a Faggot (in general) and most likely doubt his sexuality, If a Girl dress as a boy then that's fine, if a Boy dress as a girl he might even be beaten to a pulp... see the difference?

I'm not saying that coming out of the closet is easier to either sex (although in my opinion it is harder for the male) but rather than the limit in exploring a person's sexuality is much more flexible for a woman than for a man so it's understandable that even an Heterosexual male would be sacred of being considered "girly". A clear example is how people accused people who dislike Homosexuals of being Gays themselves, you can literally do nothing or say anything on the matter with out people thinking you are gay in either side of the discussion.


edit: With this i didn't meant that all people that voted Yaoi where males, Yaoi is quite a crappy genre, since it's mostly smut oriented and often lacks story( i'm openly bisexual and voted for it), Hentai too, but it has a much wider field and there are actually some manga that can be classify as hentai and still have a decent history and/or funny plot.

I definitely agree with BlackOrion. Statistically, most manga readers are male and unfortunately, most males are homophobic. It is due to the social programming that anything outside the 'norm' is shunned be it a male being 'girly' or someone being 'homosexual'... So not surprisingly, Yaoi is obviously going to get majority of votes in this poll.

Also, I personally have dislikes about each genre but still read a lot of mangas from each one. They can ALL be either unrealistic, can get too cliche, have one dimensional characters or lack a decent plot. Like shoujo/shoujo-ai/shounen-ai, it can get too sparkly n cheesy. For shounen, it can get too ridiculous with constant action but no character development. For Yuri/Yaoi/Hentai, it can lack a story all together and just be straight smut regardless of the pairings.

Now, I read ALL genres of manga but I prefer Josei/Seinen cus it seems the most tangible out of all of them due to a more mature writing style I guess. In the end, all it depends on for me is 1) a compelling/creative story, 2) good or unique art, and 3) some sort of character depth/development. That's about it. Trust me, you'd be surprised how much manga lacks all 3 of these requirements LOL (;

One of THE worst polls ever, and there have been a few. We should just give up the ghost on the poll. There's a new poll idea: ditch or keep the poll. I pretty much stop answering them.

I just checked the comments on this one because of the (unsurprising) hate on YAOI and I wanted to see what the responses were.

I read everything (and I don't mean that in a snobby way), so I didn't respond. If I absolutely had to, I would have to say Yuri, only because too many of them have super slow plots that feels like they are bogging down the plotlines. I have read some I've liked, though, so I wouldn't vote for that.

I might have voted Shounen, but that's because the ENDLESS power-up battles, harems, and tournaments occasionally drive me NUTS. But I read a lot of them, so I wouldn't vote for that.

So, I really have no opinion on this poll.

I doubt that. On every manga related website or forums I frequent shoujo and yaoi topics outnumber shounen/seinen topics, this one included. It's more likely that yaoi also got a significant number of female voters.

I wish I could vote for multiple options. I forgot if I voted for shoujo or yuri. I don't read yuri and some shoujo manga are just unbearable. I can't say I hate any of these...I just have preferences. I'm kind of surprised yaoi has the most votes considering its fan base, but then again it is yaoi...

And just to add my two cents here, I don't think most readers like reading manga about their sex with the same sex. It's the opposite sex we love to see together, 'cause we think it's hot or something.

I'm a little sad that I feel compelled to make my very first comment!! on such a horribly divisive poll. I'm a little curious--why this poll? We all have our favorite niche(s). But polls such as this do nothing but separate us and are basically a M/M hate barometer. I hate seeing that in real life and I really didn't need to see it here. Elle is sad about this.
