Lol yea, she'd be a pretty cool parent... well, if only she was like 10 or so years younger. @.@ now I can only listen to stories and dream "if only"... But at least she seems to have the basic interest back in her now! To think she used to collect them back in high school too... and Ouke no Monshou at that, a complete shoujo smut romance! -sigh- she's a puzzle.



You see, normal books and well, any text really, utilizes both upper and lower cases. As for my mom, she doesn't read English either ways. She knows just enough to get by everyday life with the help of me and her friend who knows English. So she can't seem to get used to the idea of READING EVERYTHING IN CAPITALS. You get the idea. I think I had a little problem with it too when I just started reading mangas, but it never bothered me as much as her. I just kinda got used to it before I knew it I suppose. I mean, you see ppl shouting these days, all caps, but she only just got back to using tech stuff after what? 30 years? So yea... she can't seem to figure out how it works and gave up after two pages...

So I'm seeing if I can find something without the all-caps. There are some, I know there are. Just now a lot, and most likely have poor quality and poor grammar. Can't care too much about it now though.



Sorry, as far as that goes, I'm probably gonna keep off of that. Yes, legal is a problem too. Not cause it's wrong, but it's too confusing and I don't want her to pick up the wrong habits. No confidence that she has enough knowledge to work individually on that. If by any chance she gets the idea that she can find many many pirate sites by searching in Chinese, I'm in trouble. Just like romance grosses her out, Simplified Chinese grosses me out probably even more.

And, I only just got her barely hooked onto Apple stuff, the official ones... I don't want her offtrack again.

Basic story, I'm trying to monopoly her digital knowledge to fit my desires lol! I did it with my brother too... well, it ended up half-successful? I'm confident to do it well this time now that I'm old enough!

You can always get her to read Chinese-translated manga then introduce her to english ones if capitalization is a problem (hopefully she would be too hooked on the manga to care about caps). There should be both simplified and traditional translations I believe. On a semi-related note, I hate reading in traditional since trying to look up characters in traditional takes freaking forever

There is a fujoshi with wild imagination though..

I'm not sure if it will help but I only recently got my mum interested in anime and manga...well...interested is a strong word I suppose...manga curious? XDD but she actually sat down and watched 3 episodes of anime which would be unthinkable even 4 months ago...

The ones I achieved this impossible task with was:

The anime of Kemono no souja erin and the manga Saint oniisan, but that's cause she's atheist and used to be christian so she found it hilarious. If you're mum's fine with religion then it's got no nasties, naked people, love, violence, nothing. Just light hearted gags.

Other ones I'm planning to show her are:
Uchuu kyoudai (the mc has a crush on a girl, that's it for romance and its very informative)
Chihayafuru (but my mums fine with romance, yours wouldn't like this probably)
Nekomichi (cute cat gags)
Smargs won't sing (heartwarming fantasy oneshot)
and Shuna no tabi because she loves Ghibli.

But yeah I understand the fine balance of finding manga for them XD My brothers and sisters are just getting into anime and manga as well so I don't want to show her anything that she'll be like :C no more manga evaaar till its gone through security tighter than an airport. Like I was going to show her ran and the gray world then remembered a certain chapter and was like ^^ maybe not......

LOL it doesn't help that I tried to get her into it years ago with Dramacon which you read left to right (as I thought this would be easier than getting her straight into right to left manga) but she still managed to read it the wrong way lmao. She remembered me saying you read manga backwards and ignored what I told her *facepalm.*

May I suggest Inu wo Kau?
I'm pretty sure it's typeset in both upper and lowercase letters. (And no, it wasn't that the editor was inexperienced. Just we thought the font style matched the story overall.)

We recognize words partly by their shape - capitalized words are all a solid rectangle, while lowercase words offer a more distinct pattern. Caps in comics were originally born of production practicality, but are now unnecessary (yet continued, due to tradition/conformity).

If you want lowercase comics, I recommend trying out American or European stuff. For example:

Tintin - adventure

Epileptic - psychological

Sandman - haven't read it, but looks really nice.

But if you want to stick to manga, then:

Yotsuba&! - I agree with everyone, this is the cutest fluffiest thing of all.

Yakitate!! Japan - funny, no romance I believe, and educational.

Flat (AOGIRI Natsu) - cute. There's a side girl who likes the protagonist, but he has no interest in her at all, so not really any romance.

Speaking of which how about comic strips like Peanuts.
