Well, even if she decided to do some extras, you can do only so much with them... and I think if she wanted to somehow "repair" all the damage... she would need to release at least one more volume... or better, I think she should erase/rewrite last 10 volumes -_-

So I found a post on tumblr by kannabi.

"Even though she had only 52 pages to finish this mess she has created, she spent half of this on YuMe relationship. On a dialogue which was really heart-wrenching. She clearly paid attention to their relationship more than anything else in this chapter. But if not Yume, then Kaname for sure. This chapter - and as the manga as a whole actually - revolves around him.
I find it kind of ironic, how the supposed endgame couple got basically one happy page, while Yume got like thirty pages of angst full of love. For me this Zeki marriage and all with the lack of details feels really forced. And I’m not saying this as a Yume, since most of the Zekis in different forums (Mangafox, Myanimelist) feel the same way. Even here on Tumblr a lot of them feels the same way.
Let’s be honest here: If Kaname hadn’t left the LT forcefully, Zeki would have never happened. Because Yuuki always, and always went after Kaname and chased him. At chapter 89 she basically chose to be with Kaname and wanted to save him at any costs and was willing to fall into the darkness with him as it was stated in the manga many times. Even if her heart is really torn in two, Kaname is the one she always went after. But Kaname resolved the LT himself, and by wanting Zero and Yuuki to be together as his last wish, it’s rather clear that eventually Yuuki did act on his wish and went to be with Zero. Because she loves him too. Yes, it was her choice, but since Kaname is not an option anymore and he even asked her to be happy and be with Zero, well, what is left? Zero. Kaname never ever wanted her to be alone and mourn forever. This was indeed the most logical choice for her, since with this, she was able to make Zero happy and she felt content too, even if at first she could not imagine living her life without hearing Kaname’s voice. Though I must say, I really do not like how Zero actually begged for Yuuki to be with him. What is this? It’s really inconsiderate to her feelings and really OOC in my opinion.
So yes, Zeki happened. But there was no love confession, no blissful moments, no kiss, nothing, just one panel saying they were happy. Hino gave nothing to her supposed endgame couple. Even Zero himself was reduced to brief apparances in this chapter and we know next to nothing about his future, aside from the fact that he eventually married Yuuki and had a child. But did he end up as a successful hunter? Did he get to be the president of the association? Hino did not pay attention to Zero at all and only focused on Kaname. I feel like she rushed through this Zeki stuff to finally get to the end, which was about Yume again.
Yuuki never ever stopped loving Kaname and wanted to use Aidou’s method on him, so he could revive as a human with his memories and he would be able spend his human life with Yuuki and his daughter. That girl was Kaname’s last gift to her, and it became the symbol of their love throughout the many years they spent apart. Yes, Yuuki wanted to bring him back, to be with him again, she even grew out her hair to please Kaname. But the tragic thing is, that she could not do it. So she decided to make him human with her own life instead, giving him a chance at happiness and leaving a butterfly behind to guide him to the light.
Yuuki loved them both, no question in that. She loved both romantically, she made Zero happy with her life, and made Kaname happy with her death. So the ending is basically Kaname x Yuuki x Zero, but I think it leans more to the Yume side, since Hino clearly focused on that, even though she could have made the Yume hugging at the beginning shorter. But she did not, because she definitely put the emphasis on that aspect of the story. Zeki had a family and lived together. But Yume had the classical star-crossed lovers tragic ending, and again, let’s be honest here: Hino clearly focused on this one not on Zeki."
(I feel obligated to mention that kannabi is a Yume shipper)

My response:
Despite me being a Zeki shipper (technically a Zero Happiness shipper), I can admit that there is only truth in this post and its really painful. This is how Zeki shippers and Zero Happiness shippers were completely trashed on and launched to the side. I can accept Yume, I really can, however I never wanted Zero to gain his happiness, which we did not even get to see, this way. Hino really trashed Zero, Zeki, and the shippers. I keep telling myself that I'm over VK and I was until I read this post that helped me fully understand how we were shit upon. This really does infuriate me, I'm well aware that it's just a manga but holly crap am I furious.

As I was looking over the last chapter and stared at the last time Zero showed up in the manga, I don't believe that he was truly smiling like I led myself to believe. Maybe it's just me, but Zero's face was not happy nor peaceful. It honestly looked weak and pained. Can someone seriously tell me otherwise because I am just extremely unhappy right now.

VK reminded me while I ditched shoujo manga years ago and drowned myself in yaoi manga.

neonkitty - I'm telling you this as someone who does not care about pairings, only Zero.

Zero fans got the crappy end of this chapter. That is FOR SURE. It begins and ends with Kaname. I think we honestly got screwed over big time. Even his death was more about Kaname's take on being with Yuuki than how Yuuk felt. Yuuki didn't get as much attention than Kaname and she is the main character.

I'll also tell you that Yuuki loved Zero and she wanted to be with him. She was in love with Kaname since she was a toddler, she was his fiancee for a year, she spent more time with him in a romantic sense than she ever did with Zero... but, time and time again Zero made her waver without moving a finger. Yuuki kisses Zero while she is in a relationship with Kaname, that is called CHEATING.

Yume fans also got screwed over. They don't want to admit it, but for 1000 years while Kaname was in a slumber Yuuki was off with another man. She married him and only came to awaken Kaname when he died.

I think this chapter was bad for fans of every character and pairing.

Thank you so much for the reply. I don't feel the same rage that I did prior to reading this. Thanks so much (':

I. AM. SO. DISAPPOINTED. (I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one who is disappointed with this end. Lol)
Read the other posts and TOTALLY agree with you.
Feels like Yuuki stayed with Zero because Kaname said they should be together. I didn't feel a true love between them. (Zeki fan here. Actually, Zero fan. Yuuki was a pain in the ass the whole story).
Agree with some people, I started wishing a new love to Zero. Yuuki doesn't deserve him, he's so above her.
And about the humans vs vampires thing? Nothing changed and it's okay? Whatthehell??
I want to burn my VK mangas so bad right now (at least I stopped buying it at volume 10, so I didn't spent so much, thanks god).
I feel kind of cheated. sad

I actually cried at this ending and hated it. Poor Kaname and Yuuki! That was a horrible thing for him to do, semi-dying like that. And then Yuuki committing suicide like that in the end just because the men in her life are gone... So sad. As a Yume fan, I didn't like this ending. It was far too rushed. And then to have Kaname come back to life as a human when Yuuki herself was against him doing it for her... I hope that there are loads and loads of extras. I can handle another volume solely of extras Hino-San!

I'm emotionally damaged after reading the ending. What...? Why...? It all happened too fast. It didn't feel natural. Ugh.

I stopped reading VK long ago, but i also wanted to know how it ends. And i'm also disappointed as so many others.
I always was a Zero Fan, but i completely agree to you that I wasn’t satisfied with this ****. How could it end like this? Somehow I think Hino liked Kaname more, but was afraid of the fans and their reaction (without a zeki ending, the fans might have killed her? eek )

PJ1 said the title should be Vampire Kaname and I totally agree with this. Why were there other characters? *dryly laugh*

Before I read some comments I also thought that the kids were two daughters… But now i don’t now XD

May be people read too much in that butterfly... Don't all Japanese believe that you turn into one if you die? Isn't it something about crossing over to "the other world"? So maybe the meaning of it was not so big? Although I think yuuki might be a nag enough to do so X’D

The only thing that is left in my heart is my disappointment and a little bit of relief. At least it’s finally over and we all can move on… So maybe we are the real happy ending? *lol* (Well... No sad )

So I wasn't the only one who felt this!? I honestly didn't feel this with only the last chapter; I sensed it early on but I thought it was just the Zero fan in me over analyzing things. I'm pretty sure she was a Yume and Kaname fan. Even mangakas have a bias, but I only hope that their favoritism doesn't get in the way of their storytelling. I don't think Hino handled this very well though.. I also heard that Hino was rushed so that's why VK ended abruptly but was it REALLY necessary to have pages of Kaname talking and hugging Yuuki? Really? Seriously, how many pages needed to be Kaname centered? I think by the end Kaname was the "Vampire Knight" despite being more of a king (IMO). There's a limit Hino and you flung your way passed it.

As for the whole butterfly thing, I'm not too sure about what they symbolize but VK has always put an emphasis on butterflies.

Kaitomi is right about the butterfly symbolizing souls, and xxxholic (and the various other CLAMP works) use it as symbols of fate and destiny and the like, and I figure Hino is doing the same.

Thanks for clearing that up and I believe that Bleach also did/does the same. I think fans may just be romanticizing the butterfly then.

I thought the butterfly flying to him and the bright light he sees both symbolized a happy future as a human for Kaname.

At least we didn't get another 10 pages of his new life, while completely ignoring what everyone else was doing.

thank God it's over!! Everyone's dead in the end I assume? Skimming through your reactions. I'm so glad I'm not emotionally invested in this manga. Got a gut feeling that the ending will be somewhat crappy no matter who she'll end up with.

I dropped it a long time ago after Kaname lost his mind, killing the other purebloods and....... the story was just going on a circle, talking about confusing pasts, trying to make it super emo, or whatever reasons that are...... anyway, I dropped it but I still want to know the ending.

Personally I like Yume pairing better but seems like the ending was just both half ass-d either way for Yume or Zeki fans. I rather read free fanfiction out there rather than read the actual manga smile wink grin

I always rooted for zero and even though he ended up with the girl, whats so great about getting a girl who has someone else as her number one in her heart. Yuki's daughter even called Kurname her beloved at the end. The author went so overboard in trying to make the manga dark and emotional and I quit caring a long time ago. When I marathon read a romance manga, it can get emotional for me, but when I read one chapter a month, I become immune to it.
