So, Sony gave their presentation last night (I stayed up till 4am to watch the whole thing biggrin ) and the general consensus on gaming sites and Tumblr seems to be that Sony has beaten Microsoft by miles. Of course it remains to be seen who will actually win this gen, if anyone, and there is possibly room for Microsoft to do a U-turn, but I was interested in hearing your opinions.

1. Are you planning to invest in/do you already own one of the next gen consoles, and which one? (Wii U, PS4, Xbox One, Vita or 3DS)

2. Who do you think will "win" this generation? Do you think the Wii U will continue its disappointing sales and be unable to replicate the Wii's success?

3. Which games/trailers/demos from E3 have excited you so far?

4. What have been the disappointments of E3 for you?

As for me:

1. I don't have any of these consoles. It is very possible that I will buy a 3DS or PS4 in future (not certain as I have a gaming PC and intend to do most of my gaming on that instead), but I am not much interested in the Wii U or Vita and most definitely not interested in Xbox One given Microsoft's new policies.

2. I think PS4 will beat Xbox One, but it might not be a huge landslide victory because some people just don't care or understand the reason so many gamers are in uproar about Microsoft's new policies and requirements for playing Xbox One. I think Wii U will be successful but not as much as the Wii.

3. The Dragon Age teaser - so short (and a fall 2014 release date, sob). FFXV (né FF Versus XIII), Kingdom Hearts 3... Assassin's Creed IV. I missed everything about the next Mass Effect but I'd be interested in that too. Everything else - Can't say I really care about any games with a focus on shooting things, cars or sports.

4. Many announcements were underwhelming, and of course Microsoft's turn to these new policies is disappointing, but we knew about that before E3. The thing that disappointed me about Sony's presentation was that Playstation Plus membership is now required if you want to play online multiplayer, and they really didn't seem to want to point that out explicitly knowing some would be displeased. With my gaming PC, I don't see myself using a console enough to justify a PS Plus membership.

So, what are your thoughts?

For the sake of being honest, I'll admit I have always chosen a sony console over its competitors in all areas but handheld gaming, I have owned an Xbox and my other half owns a 360. I have no real dislike of the Xbox line outside of a biased dislike for the Xbox live simply becuase I have encountered more asshats there than on the PSN, for me there are too few exclusives that get me excited on the Xbox and its always been that way. The only thing that made me get an Xbox originally was Fable and well the sequels just weren't as enjoyable for me.

1. Are you planning to invest in/do you already own one of the next gen consoles, and which one?
I plan on getting the PS4, already own the Vita and my other half owns a 3DS. I don't plan on getting an Xbox One primarily because of the position Microsoft has taken on preowned games as several years ago my PS3 collection was 90% preowned copies outside of the few and far gifted games add onto the fact that the Xbox one has been toted as an Entertainment system focused on many things that won't work in the UK and finally I haven't really seen any exclusives for it that have hooked me in.

2i. Who do you think will "win" this generation?
Honestly it does look like Sony will walk away with this one however this is just the start of the new console war and time may change things.

2ii. Do you think the Wii U will continue its disappointing sales and be unable to replicate the Wii's success?
Without the WiiU getting a decent array of must have exclusives I don't think the WiiU can improve much sales wise without a major cash price cut.

3. Which games/trailers/demos from E3 have excited you so far?
Sigh honestly Kingdom Hearts 3, FFXV, Infamous Second Son and Knack.

4. What have been the disappointments of E3 for you?
Dragon Age Inquistition, I was hoping for a bit more than what I saw.

It was an expected development. Microsoft basically shot itself in the foot in the eyes of the gaming community at the XBOne reveal. Sony would have been idiots not to capitalize on it.

Never owned an XBox and I basically skipped the last generation. Good thing too, there weren't that many games that interested me on the PS3 over it's 7 year life span. Only one Final Fantasy title came out (I don't consider the MMO's or followups like XIII-2) and it was basically a mess. Not one Kingdom Hearts or Megami Tensei sequel came out and Tales of Vesperia was Japanese only. Probably MGS4, Heavy Rain and Valkyria Chronicles were the only PS3 games that caught my interest, but three games isn't enough justification to buy an overpriced console.

1.) Are you planning to invest in/do you already own one of the next gen consoles, and which one?
I'll most likely be getting the PS4 this gen though I'll probably wait a while for more PS4 exclusives before deciding to buy or skipping again. The PS+ requirement doesn't bother me since I'm not gonna play online multiplayer anyway. Consoles for me have always been about the single player RPGs and couch buddy versus games.

No comments on 3 and 4 since I'm not exactly watching E3, just following news on the console war.

PS4, for more than obvious reasons

2. Who do you think will "win" this generation? Do you think the Wii U will continue its disappointing sales and be unable to replicate the Wii's success?
WiiU is screwed is little more than a gimmick and with so few games in its belt... well
This generation will probably fall in Sony hands, initially they will get some backlash from publishers and will have less exclusives (because they are the ones that hate the used game market), but once the console sells kick off and PS4 dominates the market, the publishers will have no other choice than to go the PS4 way, if they want to sell games that.

3. Which games/trailers/demos from E3 have excited you so far?

Watch Dogs
Kingdom Hearts 3
Titanfall

4. What have been the disappointments of E3 for you?

No expectations, no disappointments

I don't usually watch E3, heck I don't even get involved with the whole console war thing, but I watched a few conferences this year because my flatmate's into it, and we ended up watching them in my room so yeah. Judging from what I can see, I'd put money on Sony for this one.
I'd be tempted to buy a PS4 (a while after it's released though)

Me and my flatmate were both very excited with the Mirrors Edge 2 announcement though. We both went nuts and re-watched that trailer at least 10+ times laugh

Definitely planning to get a 3DS someday (especially if they ever decide to make a more compact version of the XL, but with the same battery life) when Phoenix Wright 5 comes out. *__*

2. Who do you think will "win" this generation? Do you think the Wii U will continue its disappointing sales and be unable to replicate the Wii's success?

Who knows? I think it's still too early to say.
Probably. Right now it seems like to me, the Wii U doesn't really have anything special or unique enough to outshine the Wii. I mean, I know there's the whole video game controller's extra screen, but unlike some people, I find it difficult to 'screen-watch' both the tv and controller while playing.

3. Which games/trailers/demos from E3 have excited you so far?

Mirror's Edge 2! biggrin
Last time I heard, it's been in development for years and I didn't think it would even come out anymore lol.

Also, super excited about the new Super Smash Bro's trailer just came out~

4. What have been the disappointments of E3 for you?

Since I never cared enough about the xBox series to begin with, the news doesn't really affect me so I can't say I've felt disappointed about anything yet.

i have always been a fan of sony because there games are always manga/anime related ( but not every SINGLE game )[ not as much as nintendo obviously!! ]

I've been a ps3 owner since the day before it came out (since i bought it in a really ghetto swap meet)
and i was mad because of the hype behind it

So It Is Simple.

Fun, Family gaming goes for Playstation 3 ( except BF4 ) .
Competitive Gaming for PC and Microsoft.

i played 360 for 2 years without touching my ps3(witch i recently found in my grandma's storage room)
and i was like a god in all the online games except little big planet as xbox 360 does not have.

We really cant say much till atleast a month before the consoles come out
as X1 & PS4 have only mentioned minor details and they are not finished.

1)PS4
2)WiiU will continue to screw and DS will continue to save its ass
3)I'm pumped for MGS5 and new DarkSouls but not much was seen. Don't really care about anything else. Which is also...
4)Disappointing because nothing really excited me.

they still are minor details because they are still editing software and hardware.
Remember last failure with RRoD and YLoD they do not want to have that repeated as that wasnt their first but second consecutive console malfunction in many households after launch

Did you really just say that the specs of the new consoles are minor details? The specs are the biggest details when a new console launches especially when they are bascially PCs now with no weird custom architecture

Is this sarcasm or did someone on the internet just say they were wrong? o_O That would be a first.

In any case, I really thought the Wii U had a poor line up (and I too don't think I'd get along with having a second screen in my lap), but they showed some new entries from core franchises at their presentation today, including a new Mario Kart and a new Super Smash Bros. I bet a lot of people are pleased about that so their sales may pick up.
