I like the Ruthless Killer. Someone like Acherit from Ubel Blatt. Preferably with a little comedy. Acherit makes it a little too dark though it's awesome. Hey, sasuke works too!

I don't really know what to choose. I've seen all of those elements done very well sometimes, and other times, they completely screw it up.

I agree, it's pretty sad that so many manga-ka use ignorance/stupidity as a plot device that brain power isn't even an option in a fan poll of protagonist personality traits...

My list is for the intelligent if not quite cunning:

Kagami Junichirou from Denpa Kyoushi
Nana from Nana to Kaoru
Tanaka Manabu from Yandere Kanojo

I COULD go on, but that's as far as memory alone will get me, and I'm too lazy to scan over my reading/complete lists to dredge up some others.

I guess I'd go with principled if it didn't have ethical there. My favorite protagonist is, hands down, Shou from Akumetsu. In my opinion i guess he'd be an anti-hero, but my favorite trait in him is his willpower to never sacrifice his principles for an easier route. (He also falls into the Intelligent/cunning list)

I'd like to see at least some degree of intelligence. I hate idiotic protagonists. I didn't vote, since I don't have a preference for one of the options listed really o.o

This one's very hard... I chose ruthless killer but actually it's because it's the closest... It's more because he's often scheming something evil, well, what I had in mind was a tsundere gril too... but
