This week's poll was suggested by our member compass96. You're in the process of creating a new series, so where are you gonna place your characters? The choices should cover most of the bases...hopefully...

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: What do you like to see most in your anime protagonist?
Choices:
Undying love for their friends - votes: 833 (6.7%)
Calm in the face of danger - votes: 2626 (21.2%)
Principled and ethical - votes: 894 (7.2%)
Strong Willpower - votes: 1897 (15.3%)
Courage to face anything - votes: 1159 (9.4%)
Vulnerability - votes: 953 (7.7%)
Anti-Heroism - votes: 2933 (23.7%)
Ruthless Killer - votes: 1076 (8.7%)
There were 12371 total votes.
The poll ended: July 6th 2013

Maybe I should have phrased it "What do you like to see in your anime hero?"

Probably historical. Or futuristic/fantastic. Earthlike but not quite is also good.
Modern is boring. ;p

Futuristic Earth-like/Space or Modern America/Europe;
definitely not anything Historical (hate how they make fools out of famous historical persons - feels like a poor doujinshi).

Should have added historical asia/china cause that'd be my pick. But out of the choices, I'd have to go with Fantasy Earth.

Modern setting have flexibility on how the manga progressing. Historical setting will require the author to have the knowledge on how the manga and actual history are connected, while changing some element to fit the setting of the manga. Futuristic and Original(Another World setting) setting will need for the author to have creative mind, setting and the elements that will be used have to be futuristic/original or the manga wont have enough appeal to the reader

I'd go with an Alternative History setting. What would happen if Japan and Germany won WW2? Set in the 21st century. I always wanted to make something out of that.

Would go with a modern (if slightly advanced) alternate history setting (to near-future/futuristic beneath the surface) that at the same time loosely resembles the real-world (butterfly effect be damned) though it would initially focus on a somewhat familiar modern city in Europe or America.

At the same time, I'd look to weave in events or situations from outside of Europe/America in a manner similar to Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed, while also having the opportunity to elaborate the setting further in stand-alone chapters/episodes (with some degree of continuity) or in some databook (assuming the Manga is successful).

Not Earth.

Its the hardest from a writing perspective, but allows the greatest flexibility.

If it was me I would say that the setting is closer to Futuristic Earth-like with Fantasy mixed in...
I have chosen futuristic, because that is closer to what I actually want...

Augh I actually had to think about this when doing an original series. The original roleplay was in japan but I don't know japan like that and it just come off weeboo-ish if I went ahead and did that so I moved the cast to america, made them multi cultural and left it there.

It's best to go for what you know. Worldbuilding is hard. ^__^;;;;

As a writer and artist in general I almost always go with a Fantasy Earth (or Earth-like) setting. It's fun to think up new and exciting places/things/creatures. However, I do also tend to leak in modern Japan, Europe, or America into the setting as kind of a basis. X3
