A few series that haven't been suggested yet; some of these include rape, though nothing approaching Bradherley no basha's level:

Hideout
Smuggler
The World Is Mine - The first volume is notably weaker than the rest of the series, so I recommend reading through at least the second volume... Also the scanlation for this series is completely dead, so who knows if it will ever be finished.

And a couple of Tezuka's darker works:
Alabaster
Melody of Iron - The title story.

I adore Gangsta. out of various reasons, so it's always a bit tough to find something, that can be compared to it, but aside from a few already reommended ones, there are ...

* Beck - It's a classic and maybe THE classic, if it's about friendship and music, but aside from this you have a realistic feel and as a sideline your thugs near by.

* Jackals - Manhwa, that's dealing mainly with guns for hire and mafia families battling over one city. Sometimes non-realistic and lots of blood, but there's definitely lots of action.

* Basilisk and Blood+ - I think, for these two you can put the realistic thought for a moment aside, because you will get nice atmospheres and prettily executed action for it. Kkk.

* Reset - If you are into storylines, that mix up virtual reality and society troubles then this might catch your attention. Although, there are a few weakpoints, it was still nice to kill some time.

* BB Project - Seems at first more like an american styled comic, but the funny moments got me and all in all it was worth it's while. Remindes me a bit of junk food. Lol.

* Gekiryuuchi - Illegal fights and the main character stumbling into it, because he is looking for a freind he thought of as dead. A rather heavy storyline and setting, but somewhat catchy.

* M.C. Law - This one is more of a underdog, although in the beginning it has it's moments, seeing how an ex-thug deals with law on a new level.

Kurozuka - It's a pretty dark story. Lots of gore.
SaiKano - Most depressing story I've ever read
