NO MANHWA!
NO YAOI!

I used to think I didn't like romance, but just realized, that wasn't it. It's romance for the sake of romance that I don't like. You know, the whole plot is on how they love each other, and nothing else? I can't care less. So I'm looking for romance mangas, that has effect and influences the plot. Um... it's kinda hard to explain. Like, there's a plot going on besides the romance part, and their relationship actually affects the plot. I mean, both of them are part of the world, so their love gotta have SOME effect. They can't live just for the sake of love, and of course you can't eat it either.

For example... um... like, a princess marrying a prince gotta have SOME political stuff going on, right? The before and after stuff, not just the romance part cropped out. Does that make any sense at all?

Cantarella
Gu Fang Bu Zi Shang - Perfect example, but only if you can read Chinese. Manga's not very far yet.
Edo Never Sleeps
Otogimoyou Ayanishiki
Nana - Bit on the border... Actually, I doubt it fits all that much.
Otoyomegatari kinda...
Bakuman might also fit, considering that his love for Azuki was the whole reason for the manga, but the plot itself isn't centered around it.
Emma

Well, they all fit more or less... but you get the idea. Romance is part of the real world, they can't be cropped out and framed. What they do and how they act, would affect those around them. In this case I'm looking for stuff more on the larger scale side. Like, political stuff. Doesn't have to be though.

Shoujo+Comedy+School Life = generally doesn't fit. There are of course exceptions, but most of the time that's the exact thing I don't want. Other genres like harem, ecchi, yaoi generally don't fit either, other than the rare exceptions.

I'll take ecchi as well this time, but not too much on the fan-service please! Like, forced panty shots, absolutely annoying dangling watermelon boobs on every other girl, etc.

I'm not really into fantasy stuff or others, but "Slice of Life" stories. That's why, if you are fine with an influence on the people around them or their daily life, then there are three stories maybe worth a try.

First is H and actually one of my "problematic" favourites, because - I don't know, if I should like or hate this. But - That's only because the characters emotions are expressed pretty well and can make one feel depressed at times, which might on the other hand be a sign for a well developed plot. Mainly you get a glimpse of every characters issues, so that love turns into a trigger and the usual light feelings turn into something more serious.

The second one is Motto, Ikitai..., which deals mainly with a crime case, artificial intelligence and reflections on society. The main topic is bound to love and what it can lead to, or like what it can turn into when it's missing or unexpressed. It's tagged as Shoujo, but doesn't really show the weaknesses of the genre IMO.

As for the third, it's Diamond Dust (KANG Hyung-Gyu) a Shounen webtoon and not "directly" a Manhwa. In this case the reviews vary somewhat, but for me it was a good read. The heavy background was more or less well-expressed by the author, so that the realistc feel not only came through when facing the emotions of the characters in the romantic part of the plot, but also during the hard times they go through or when others realize their issues.

Ga-rei - first thing that came to mind when I read your post. Inter-character relationships is a big part of it, and romance definitely plays a role, but it's very clearly action and plot based too. Darker than you'd first think, but lighter than what you'd expect.

I've been really obsessed with Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo. It's not categorized as a shoujo but genres do include romance comedy and school life. Romance is second to the plot and doesn't play a big part til way later.

Edit: there are boys kissing in it but its not yaoi or shonen-ai it's just to add to the comedy
