My native language is Indonesian. I learned English since 8 years old through console games and books. When I played games or read books, I always took notes on every difficult words I encountered and tried to look up in the dictionary later. Thanks to that, I can understand some reading without notable difficulties, and I have already memorized many vocabularies. When I was in 4th through 7th grade, I've been trained in listening skill by my teachers, so I can understand clearly what people said, though my speaking skill is so-so because I'm a shy person, I rarely talk much. sad

English is my first language. But my situation is kind of weird because my father's from the U.S. and my mother's Japanese, so I grew up hearing and speaking both languages. My mom always tells me that when I was small, it confused me to the point that I would often mix the languages together in the same sentences when I spoke laugh . It was especially bad since I was not old enough to start school at that time. But I started speaking Japanese predominantly when we moved to Japan when I was around 3.

German. I had years and years of english in school, and now i prefer to read and watch most of my stuff in english. I´m pretty comfortable with my writing skills, but when spoken to my english degrades to the level of a 10 year old biggrin

Polish. I started learing English at the age of 6-7, but I've never taken classes seriously (and English of my first teacher - to the end of primary school - reaaally sucks! I found my notebook from 5th grade a few months ago...). When I went to middle school (12 yo) I decided I have to try - 'no English? no future" so... I started reading manga in English :3 I remember that most of the time I spent translating words in google translate, but after a few years I have no problem with surfing in English, on the whole I don't see polish websites anymore - with a small exceptions, of course. I try to persuade people who think English is their weak side and they suck that they can change it pretty easily, if they start from small steps! eyes I know somebody who appreciated my idea of watching Jdramas with English subtitles instead of Polish after some time biggrin

Well, I'd like to learn Spanish (I started in high school 1,5 years ago), but I don't have enough motivation, I think. dead I mean... I'm too lazy xDD

It's Polish, but I've started learning English in primary school and now I'm even studying English Philology, so yeah - I'm more or less bilingual ^^ Somewhere along the line I've also tried learning german, latin (compulsory in my field of study), italian, french (but I've gave up on this one, because my teacher sucked) and japanese (self study) - as you can see languages are my life biggrin (kind of can't help it, as [hopefully!] working as a translator is a natural consequence of studying philology ^^)

English for me as well.

I failed both French and Spanish in school, but can speak enough Japanese to get by. I'm not good enough to translate though, manga is HARD!!!!

My native language is Tagalog (Philippines) although we also learn English at the same time. English is basically our medium of language in learning since preschool. I'm more of a grammarian than a speaker in terms of English language and vise versa with Tagalog.
Currently I'm struggling to learn how to speak and write Japanese language. Ganbate to me (T.T)
