The black cat in the manga is Shingo, which story is in http://www.mangaupdates.com/series.html?id=73982
I don't see any indications that Natsume is a cat, so i assume he isn't one.
To that cat indication. Natsume would change for his cat form, when he is excited, so i think the answer is that Natsume is not a cat.
