I'm fairly easy going with what I choose to read, but once I do start is when the judging begins.
Before reading a manga I usually look at the Summary, Tags/Genre, and Update frequency.

Once I start that's when I start judging the story development, character depth, art etc.etc. I usually allow the first volume to decide if I continue.
If I like it, I add it my list, if I don't approve I stop reading and look at the reviews. If there are reviews that say something like "First little bit was rough but..." Or something along those lines, then I will push forward.
The only exception I have to this process is if I really like the premise then I will try my hardest to push through a manga's flaws.

I'll go with Genre(sometimes tags too), description. If it interests me at this point, I'll just add it to my wish list. If it doesn't, I'll continue with cover art, then possibly rating and maybe comments.

genres, cover, description, tags, rating, comments
I like to finish what I start so I take my time. most things are ok, romance an almost must but there are sure-kill factors,.like shoujo-romance-drama with nothing else
love polygon or brother/sister complex etc
rating is irrelevant when there are too few votes
comments get ignored as well if they're too few and bad or dependent on who posted them

if something passes, I put it in my ever-growing wish list or start reading depending on the art and/or description

I think I'm pretty picky...

Usually description is the only factor, but I also look for artwork, how many chapters are out and update frequency, though these things are not the be-all and end-all of my decision.

First I take a look at the cover, then the genres, then the categories, then the ratings and then I check whether it's complete, ongoing, completely scanlated or not and so on.
If it's not scanlated and nobody's actively working on it I give up on it right away, if it's either completely or still being scanlated I'll read the summary and maybe some of the comments to decide.

And then I'll either start to read right away or put it on my wishlist if it didn't capture my attention that much... if it's not completely scanlated yet it goes on a seperate list.
I guess I'm pretty picky, especially about the art. Sometimes I check the first few pages on some online reader to see if I really like it or not and if I don't I'll drop it again ._.

Well, first I read the summary and then I read the latest or last chapter. If the chapter makes me want to know more, how it came to that point, I start reading from the beginning. I've read enough manga where I regret reading 50 chapters, only for it to have a lame ending.

I check length first. If it's complete or over 4 volumes, ongoing and updated within half a year, I'll check out the blurb. If the blurb is good, I'll check out the genre and ratings. If it passes those, I give it a one volume trial period. If I'm unsatisfied, I won't continue. That rarely happens though.

I usually look at the description, then the cover art. The cover art is usually the deciding factor though. Unless the description is really interesting, I wouldn't read it if the art is bad. Then there is the categories and scanlation stats. If it's incomplete, it goes into my wishlist. I'd say I'm getting quite picky about the art.

Most I've started reading after checking the genres, categories and descriptions (in that order) here on MU. Quite a lot after checking what other manga an author/mangaka has drawn and/or written after finishing a manga. Some I've started reading after only seeing the name of the manga, some after reading a review or two. A couple I've had to get recommendations from people I know before I started to read. A few I've started reading after watching an anime that was awesome or with an incomplete story (and a couple the other way around). One or two I've had to skim through the first couple of chapters before actually starting to read...

The genres are really important to me. I TRY to avoid reading Manga with ecchi, yaoi, josei, gender bender, and shoujo.
My standards before reading a manga
-Chapters = 50++ to 1000
-Genres may include at least/= drama, action, seinen, shounen, comedy, psychological, mystery, martial arts, comedy, sci-fi, supernatural, and a bit of romance will do.
-Story = after 20 chapters and I still uncomfortable reading it, i stop. But many times, I can decide to read one fully when it is really a good manga.
-Change of pace = When I just read a serious seinen, psychological, or mystery, after it I sometimes read a manga with good humor in it just for a breather. And vice-versa....serious to not, and not to serious.
*when i say serious it includes good drama and/or action...when i say "not" its a light manga, i mean light to read--you know, one that can make you laugh or smile(rare times, blush)

1. i try to read 'completely scanlated' - to me the most important thing.
so in advanced search i'll just tick any genre i like to read at that time or i want to exclude, and tick completely scanlated.

1.1 categories for porn
if i'm in the mood for some yaoi or shoujo, i'll put the categories i find stimulating at that time (age gap and what not)

2. after that is rating
i'll click 'rating' so it will show from highest rating to lowest rating.

3. then i'll check status
just because its completed doesn't mean its finished - it may be discontinued or author die before completion.

4. then the negative comments
i like negative comments cos they will highlight stuff that make or break to me. but if everything is glowing, then i'll check it out.

5. the manga itself
if its interest me until halfway through the first chapter i'll continue but if after 15pages i find it boring usually i'll stop. however i seldom discard any manga, so it will probably stay in my reading list for a very long time before i decide to pick it up back. if the manga really offend me with the atrocious paneling or very very poor translation quality i'll put it in unfinished or on hold list. i have 1000+ manga in reading list.

1. First i check the summary and the genre. Mostly shounen doesn't suit my taste, especially if it is ecchi.
2. The status and the frequency of releases - Ongoing status doesn't bother me, but the frequency of releases should preferably be more. I hate to be left hanging.
3. The comments - Even if my first opinion of the manga is not as good, however if the comments are favourable, then I give the manga a shot.

Depends. When I'm especially in need of my manga doses, I just read whatever I found that looks 'decent'. But most of the time, the orders are like this:

1. Last Releases, this is like.. what I see first even before reading the title. I'm a hopeless online reader except for some popular manga available in my country..
2. Title + Cover, to check if I've read this or not (which sometimes i don realize even after a few chapters). If the drawing is familiar, guess author and artist comes next?
3. The first sentence of the description, and ratings. Tough I don't believe too much in ratings.

I'll avoid reading comments at any cost, because first impression is always important. I'm afraid I'll be given up to the series without even reading, or maybe given some spoilers like..

Or the whole nine yards where you look at the description, title, artwork, ratings, length (chapters/volumes), author, genre, tags, status ( completed, or updated often), comments, ...

LOL. It sounds freaky when you put it that way but I am a picky reader. I first look at the status ( I only read complete and fully scanlated mangas ) and I don't read oneshots so I look at the chapters next. It prefer the ones with at least 30 chapters. And then I read the description. Sometimes when I feel a sudden spark, I stop at this. But if not, I look at the art and then the ratings and tags. And finally, when the manga seems really nice but I'm still having second thoughts, I read the reviews and recommendations.

Note: The genre is actually the first because I'll only read it if it's romance.
