Saw that Uchuu Kyoudai had a new chapter available, and clicked through to see what group had picked it up. Was more than a little surprised to see that it was listing the latest chapter from Crunchyroll. Was even more amused to see that the global ban on URLs meant no direct link to the chapter even though in this case it would be quite legal.

My concern is that I kind of look to BU for where I can read titles (online or download) without a paid subscription. If this is the start of a new trend, then it's going to make the site even less useful than it became after the URL block. Maybe that's the intention? Shut down the site by making it increasingly less useful and so folks won't notice it when it goes away?

not only you are being kind of mean to a site you supposedly want to use, but you are clearly saying this place only worth is the pirated use of manga WHICH is in no way correct looking as how they have been showing the status in home country which in this case applies to CC looking as how it is a legal source.

... Not saying im you are wrong to be an ass but... at least save it for youself bigrazz '.

P.D... btw... if u just want a site where u can look when a pirated manga comes up... just go to google and get some RSS feed.

For Crunchyroll and US users, latest chapter is free to read without too much hassle, which is why we decided to allow for it to be added as a group

Understand the thinking in letting CR post this. Not sure I did the best job of explaining my concerns. Let me try again and see if I can do better.

First, since this is a legit and licensed site, I don't understand why there isn't a URL provided. Trying to get to where CR shows this Manga through their main page is quite the exercise. I know that the site changed the policy on including Scanlation URLs, but given this is a licensed distribution it seems like it should get an exception?

Second, and with any luck this is something that over the next couple of years will take care of itself, it would be helpful to have some kind of indication (perhaps something groups would provide in their description) over terms of use and locations. As you correctly point out, some of us folks who live in English-speaking non-US locales will find that chapters that are supposed to be available aren't actually. I know BU isn't setup to track this, but I would think you could require folks like CR who have a paid staff to provide it.

Lastly, and my personal concern, is that I wish there was some way for BU to indicate the "real" status of a chapter. Something that is only available in some places for some period of time is not as valuable as something that I can read, and know I can go back a year later and re-read. I would be happy if all chapters of all series could be subscribed to on a yearly basis with a al la carte selection. Even CR right now charges a fee that includes all their series, but if you only ever read two of them you will pay as much as for all of them.

My concern is that as the market fragments further that it will get harder to understand what a "new chapter" showing up on BU really means. And that it will thereby make the site harder to use even than the removal of the site URLs. I am not advocating for a Pirate-only board, though perhaps I am somewhat arguing for one that at least stays Pirate-friendly. Regardless, if it gets to the point where I go to BU, look at what is available, and then spend more time determining if it's REALLY available or not, then I have to question if I'm not better off just hitting CR and one of the posting sites directly. If a significant number of folks do that I would worry about the viability of BU. I know y'all aren't getting rich doing this, but I would have to think that there is some point where you have to have enough traffic to still break even. As such I am trying to make a suggestion that I would hope would help continue to make BU the best place to figure out what's new. My apologies if that comes across as less than helpful.

Crunchyroll is in no way associated with us. They themselves are not adding their releases to MU. As with all scanlation groups, any person can report a release for any group, although admins or release moderators will check the validity of any reported release.

Finding Crunchyroll's release was very easy, so I don't know what kind of problems you're having... There are currently no plans to give an exception to URL policies to Crunchyroll. This may change in the future, but for now that's how it is.

We will not be doing any sort of "real" status per chapter as your are suggesting. It's impossible to track such a thing without a huge amount of staff
