Hello fellows. I was making a comment about how boring Area no Kishi could be, and how the main cast is a fail, then I stumbled upon cliche shounen thread. So an important idea popped up. Does the main/male character need to have spiky hair to act like a boss, be manly ? Or more brawly than brainy. It seems like that every unspiky male character is by design meant to be tame
And don't even talk about the hair color... Blond is positive chatty guy , and black hair guy is more silent, gloomy.

1) I agree with this topic very much i think that if the main character had a bowl haircut many people would just think of him as unmanly or something like that
2) The big three's ( Naruto, One Piece and Bleach) Naruto Luffy and Ichigo have awesome looking hair i think that the hair is one of the most important things in Shounen for the Main character

I disagree on both Naruto and Luffy. Naruto was never the badass type or is now, same with Luffy. However Madara is a badass overpowered character and Zoro is the crew's most badass guy. I believe that spiky haircut means that the character is evilish looking as in most titles were gangs appear. Having badass' moments because a character is the protagonist doesn't mean he is a badass.
One title that applies 100% to this topic is Sun-ken Rock with Kitano Ken. Ocha Nigosu also applies though the MC is kind deep in his heart. Same happens with appearances, MC in Gun X Clover is a kid-look-a-like with an almost-helmet haircut yet he is a badass.

Tsuna Katekyo Hitman Reborn!, Gon Hunter x Hunter, Yugi Yu-Gi-Oh!, Goku Dragonball to name a few - it's the hair that matters.
