I don't remeber if this was an anime or manga but it was very similar to Doubutsu no Kuni and Papuwa The main character was a baby boy abandoned on an island. Similar to Doubutsu no Kuni he was raised by some person or creature on the island. After he gets a little older if I remeber correctly he also has control of all the animals on the island and is quite strong. Little later a princess of a kingdom (about the same age as this wildboy) runs away and ends up or is abandoned on this island. During that time both of them spent time together got fond of each other. After sometime she goes back to her kingdom to set things right in her kingdom and this boy also starts his journey. Thats all I remeber. Some descriptions might be off. Please name all the anime/manga that are kind of close to what I am thinking off.

I am not sure but I think he also had some kind of power to save the world. I am not sure on this either but I think he had a robot like esclaflowne he was suppose to pilot after he got older probably left to him by his father under the care of the creature or person raising him..

Don't know if this is what you're looking for, but Wild @ Heart is simlilar.

- Falls in love with girl

If not for the mecha thingie, it sounds a lot like Dragon Quest - Dai no Daibouken
