Until now, I've only meet two twins in real life, one is female twin back in middle school and one is male twin live near my home. I can still distinguish them despite not a close friend, I just wondering why some people have a hard time to distinguish twins. Is it really that hard? Also, how many twins you've met so far?

It's pretty easy for me. Even if they totally look alike, most of the expressions are different (one looks more tired, one looks more happy etc). I always find it easy to know who is who... BUT I HAVE A TERRIBLE TIME remembering their names. I mean, I easily can tell "oh, that is the twin who is always on the phone and doesn't talk to me and that one is the twin who loves books and is more talkative"... but... I always... don't know their names... "sooooo... you are... hm... G... D...?". It was pretty funny, my twin friends were so tired of people confusing their names, they said it was okay to call them "the twins".

Usually I can. There were twins in my class in high school and everyone had trouble distinguishing between them and I was like "What are you talking about, they look completely different!" (they did). I only met one pair of twins I couldn't tell apart, but even their parents had problems with that. They looked absolutely identical, including mannerisms and such.

In my experience...my twin sons are 18 years old now...a lot of it depends on attitude. Some people meet them & are determined that they WILL find a way to tell them apart, and they can. Other people meet them & have already decided that since they're identical twins it'll be impossible to know who's who, and sure enough, they can't tell who's who.

In person I can always tell who's who for my boys, no problem. I can be momentarily confused, but that's it. In photos when they were babies it's often impossible to tell who's who unless I can see certain distinguishing characteristics (one has a dimple on one side when he smiles) or remember who wore which clothes (they did NOT dress alike); as they got older it got easier to know who's who in photos.

I haven't met a lot of identical twins, but generally have been able to tell them apart ok if I've been around them much. The weirdest times have been when I've known one twin, not knowing they *were* a twin, and then met the other twin, thinking they were the one I already knew, but feeling that something was a bit "off" about them. laugh

I've met about 8 pairs of twins in my entire life. The first twins were back in my FIRST elementary school, I could tell them apart because one was a guy and the other was a girl. The second set was when I was in 1st grade in my second elementary school, it was two boys, I couldn't tell them apart: they wore same clothes, walk the same, act the same, speak the same, and has the same things on their face (like if one has a pimple on the face on the certain area, the area has it on the same place). The third set is when I was in 3rd grade, although they weren't identicaly twins, but I can tell they were twins. The fourth set was in 7th grade, it was two girls, but i could tell them apart, one is girly and the other is tomboy. The fifth sit is in 8th grade, it was two boys, I could not tell them apart AT ALL, even till this day, I still can't. They would sometime switch classes and none of us/teachers would know who is who until a specific action is shown to penetrate the fake identity. The sixth set is in 9th grade, it was two girls, although it was easy to tell, one has a long face and the other has a round face. The seventh set was in 10th grade, two girls as well, one was a tomboy and the other was a girlygirl. The eighth set was in 11th grade, two freshmen girls, since I didn't know them THAT well, I couldn't tell them apart. They were like the 1st grade situation, where it was too confusing to tell them apart.

Well this is all of the twins I met...as of now...

I've only ever met 1 pair of identical twins, 2 girls in my year at high school. They weren't in my class and I barely ever spoke to them, so I could never tell them apart. All the other twins I've met have been non-identical, (I've met 2 boy/girl twins and 1 pair of non-identical female twins) so there was no problem.

So it's really depend on the twin themself whether people can recognize them or not. Maybe someday I will meet one whom I can't tell apart, it will be interesting. smile
