Hey people just wondering if I'm weird because people say because I'm a girl I should only enjoy the shoujo genre but the thing is I read any genre is it weird. I prefer shoujo but I enjoy to read Shounen and Seinen. The thing is so i can change what I read I make a genre month where I only read things like Shoujo or Supernatural, this month is either Horror, tragedy or Physiological is this a good Idea or should I stick to just reading shoujo?
Thank you smile

Gender has no relation to reading choice. I know plenty of guys who like shoujo and plenty of girls who like shounen. I'm female and read every genre; I only care if it's interesting or not.

I choose my manga at random and haven't tried reading genres by month, but if you like the idea, then go for it. Genres overlap though, so you'll have to figure out the details of how to categorize stuff like Screaming Lessons (horror shoujo) or Zankoku na Kami ga Shihaisuru (psychological tragedy).

I don't think gender should matter; you should be able to like what you like. I'm a girl, and while I read a lot of shoujo, shounen manga are my absolute favorites! In addition, my friend has only even touched one shoujo manga in her life. As for the month idea, that sounds really cool. biggrin For psychological, maybe try Melo Holic? I remember it was pretty good.

EDIT: Almost forgot about Cheese in the Trap

Sorry for my rudeness... but...

ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR FREAKING MIND!!??

What does gender have to do with reading preference? If you enjoy reading something why bother of stopping. Saying that a girl should only read shoujo is almost like they're saying to only watch cute puppy love movies or nonstop romance for the rest of your life. I'm not really sure if that's what shoujo offers and i may just be stereotyping but that's because i havent read alot of shoujo mangas. I may have read a few but its not alot to actually judge. I beg for forgiveness to all those offended.

Bottomline is gender has nothing to do with preferences. That's just sexist.

P.S. Shoujo along with Seinen and Shounen are just the term used to described the "targeted" audience. I'm not saying that people that are out of the targeted audience can't enjoy it is just envisioned to appeal the majority of that demograph. thus the multiple magazines.

P.P.S. Not sure if you want, but if you really like weird (weird is a scary term, it differs from each individual... come to think of it that also describe the word cute O_O) try Gantz. it is weird but thats what makes it so goddamn good.

P.P.P.S. It contains visuals that are strictly not advisable for people below the age of 18... unless that person is inclined to it.

Well, you read what you want to read...

But I do not suggest having a genre month, I think its bad for you if you were to read a full month of combined horror, tragedy, and psychological...

That‘s just my opinion

I'm sorry if this sounds rude but that's just silly. If I were you I'd read gore like Black Joke or something similar in front of them, just to spite the people who said that. But that's just me roll And you're probably a little young for that stuff.

Seriously though, you should read whatever you like. Period.
I know a bunch of girls who grew up watching Pokemon, Beyblade, One Piece and other great shonen anime. There's nothing unusual about it.

About the monthly genre thing, it could be an interesting experiment to expose yourself to new genres, as long as you don't force yourself. At the end of the day it is about enjoying yourself so read whatever you find interesting and don't give a damn about what anyone else says. biggrin

If that person is your friend, this is my advice: you need new friends. Just that... and read whatever you want.

Shoujo, shounen, and seinen are not genres, they are demographics. They are written for target audiences of girls, boys, and men, respectively, but that does not of course mean that they can't be read by anyone. Shoujo can be adventure, fantasy, historical, romance, horror, humor, or any genre, as can the other demographics.

I prefer to read shoujo and josei, and watch shounen. Read what you like.
