Hello! Hope I'm posting in the right place. For the first time, I noticed the description of "Romance" in the Genres section reads:

"Any love related story. We will define love as between man and woman in this case. Other than that, it is up to your own imagination of what love is."

So, I'm currently confused. Are we not supposed to label yaoi and such as romance? Or is the description saying it's fine to if we want to? @@ I don't mind either way about it, I just wanna get my rules straight. Pun unintended.

Thank you!

Didn't think anyone read those descriptions. O-o That sounds outdated, btw. I wonder if those descriptions have ever been updated...

Anyway, I think people have taken some liberty with the genre. I see Yaois labeled with it and some without. Majority are without, even though Romance would fit as a genre in many of those. I haven't really seen an issue about it though. I think you can sum up from the series summary if it fits or not, though.

Well, given how it is being used I guess so. o-o

This is only my interpretation, but according to the description the Romance tag is strictly related to male-female relationships; to label romance between two people of the same sex you can use the Shounen-ai and Shoujo-ai tags, while I think Yaoi and Yuri are the equivalent of Hentai, Smut, or at least Adult tags. Other than that (which I think means "except this issue"), it is up to our imagination: maybe how subtle the romance is, if love is requited or not, if it's purely platonic, if there are robots or other crazy stuff involved XD

Well, I was gonna say something about the majority of the Yaoi not having the Romance tag as the manga that I have read has more Romance + Yaoi genre than there are Non-romance + Yaoi. But after doing a quick search on all Yaoi manga with/without Romance tag, yeah, there are only about 20% of Yaoi with the romance tag...

Yup I did the same and was surprised by the stats! I guess romance is already implied and I always expect it in Yaoi anyway in one form or another, others must feel the same.

I guess it is a redundant tag in a way since as the description states Yaoi is about intimate relationships between men, Romance just happens to fall under that category.

When you tag something as Shoujo-ai/Shounen-ai/Yuri/Yaoi it's implied the story's about two people of the same sex in some sort of intimate relationship with each other.
