So I've been thinking how all the magical girl anime and manga I've seen or read have an energetic idiot who eats a lot for a protagonist. It might just be that I'm unlucky in that regard, however I'm looking for any that have different protagonists.

I've already seen Madoka Magica. I didn't remember what the protagonist was like specifically so I didn't mention it. I haven't seen the movies though so thanks for reminding me

I liked the second season of the Nanoha anime better than the first. We get Signum and Vita in that one.

Damn right. A's is the best season of Nanoha. The other two aren't bad, mind you, just not as good as A's. StrikerS has its ups and downs, but it has a good kickass - fluffy things ratio and some really memorable moments.
