Hi! So as the title says I'm looking for a manga where the female lead has a sad past or is still burdened with something tragic.

Some examples would be Dear Waltz, Fruits Basket, Skip Beat!, Choukakou, Kubera.

Yup, so give me anything where the female lead has a sad past. It would be great if the female lead is strong in some kind of aspect, eg. mentally, physically, etc. Romance is a plus and it must be a female lead. No ecchi, yaoi, yuri, etc. please smile

Thank ya very much and I'll be looking forward to your recommendations biggrin!!

Cat Street is the first I thought of once I saw this thread =)

There's also Mars

Bitter Virgin is a heavy one...not for everyone to read.(but female lead isn't the protagonist)

Shutter Love-a short manga not really trauma or sad but really empowering to women. It's a josei type girl power manga.

Kiss and Never Cry (ongoing....definitely not a manga for everyone. Be mature and open minded when reading)

Can't believe I almost forgot: Dance Subaru- this manga itself is so intense. It's like telling the story of how trauma can warp someone normal into a brilliant artist.

I'll have to agree with spazzmatron, her works can have many female leads with a sad past. Just seconding. biggrin biggrin

Yay! Thank you for the recommendations biggrin!

I've heard of Gunslinger Girl but I never really payed attention to it, but I think I will probably pick it up. Saishuu Heiki Kanojo looks pretty sad but very interesting, I think I will save it and read it on a rainy day. I love manhwa :3 and I've read a few Hwang Mi Ri works but most of the time I feel the female lead is too childish, but maybe that's because I haven't read all of them bigrazz I've already read Cat Street, Mars, and Bitter Virgin. Kiss and Never Cry and Dance Subaru look really interesting and I'm excited to start reading them biggrin I think I will also pick up Love in the Mask too smile

Whew! Thank you for all the great recommendations biggrin

(give me more bigrazz?)

Watashitachi no Shiawase na Jikan
Tragic past, sad present...
+ Female lead with tragic past
+ Romance
+ Mentally strong, well for sure not a crybaby

Elfen Lied
If you can bear gore and harem, this is the epitome of tragic past, even more more tragic present...
Every lead character except one all bear tragic past
+ Female lead with tragic past
+ Many Female Supporting Chara with tragic past
+ Romance
+ Physically strong, well for the mental, kinda disturbed...

In Full Bloom
Webtoon. She became a cool assassin seeking revenge for her massacred village.
Filled with politics and royal intrigue.
+ Female lead with tragic past
+ Mentally and Physically strong

Oh, I wanted to add Tokyo Crazy Paradise. It's by the same author of Skip Beat!. Really good, it's a comedy, but a little dramatic, romance, and powerful action. Gender bender, but that's what makes it good. She's so hilarious she's got you laughing in one page and sympathizing in the next.

Sorry, late reply. I've already read Watashtachi no Shiawase na Jikan and I cried a bucket. Elfin lied is one that I will have to watch/read on a day that I feel like enjoying gore lol. In Full Bloom led me to a hentai but I know the webtoon that you're talking about and I am definitely going to read it. Hmm.. for Good Ending I'll put it off for now but I may come back to it. And I've read Tokyo Crazy Paradise and I loooved it smile

Any more wink?

I am reading Oboreru Knife right now. I really liked Bitter Virgin and Eden no Hana was good too.

And thank you for reminding me about the tragic past tag! I will definitely use this smile
