Hi,
I have been interested in dark stuff and horror and wondering how hateful "criminals" are... Thus, I'm writing this.
I'm not into horror manga in general, because most of them are somehow ridiculously funny, creepy yet not that scary. Lots also are based in silly Japanese legends.
Uzumaki is a successful work but it's a good example of what I dislike in horror manga.
Kami no Hidarite Akuma no Migite is another example like the previous one.
Goth is the first horror manga and one of my favorite.
Lately, I have been into Tokyo Ghoul and Shingeki no Kyojin.
What I'm really looking for is a good manga that is "really scary" unlike the likes of Uzumaki.
Other than gore and tragedy, the manga should also contain real psychological things, like how society act against the main characters in scary ways, or that the main character is scared of society for some reasons or how society change their behavior toward him.
What's more important, the manga must contain happy times in the beginning or the middle of the plot, or some progress for the good regardless of either succeeding or failing reaching the happy end.
I would like the main character being afraid of losing his happiness and loved ones and is working toward protecting them. Loneliness also might be another good topic.
Any ideas or recommends?
Edits:
I'm not really asking for manga exactly of what I wrote or that much of realistic.
Real means "very much like it".
P.S. I won't take made up stories as answers of my wondering, of course.

Please remember that no matter how "realistic" the manga, they're still stories and should not be taken as reality.

Hmm... there aren't that many really scary horror manga, to be honest.
However, I recommend 7 Seeds. It isn't scary, but it's heavily psychological and has some of the best group character development I've read. The beginning is a bit of a pain to read, but it gets really good once you get used to the style. And there are some real tear-jerker moments.
If you want scary, then rather than horror, check out Peak (IM Gang-hyeok) and Kokou no Hito (this second one seems Shounen-ish at first, but definitely isn't later on). You'll be sure to get quite a bit of psychology as well as a few heart-attacks from those. Nothing quite as scary as realistic portrayals of dangling off an enormous cliff. D:

I think Franken Fran is more "funny & creepy" as the OP doesn't want.
You could try Alive. It's not really scary (well it depends on the reader) but it has great focus on psychological issues.
Doubt and Judge might also be what you're looking for-> Scary+psychological.

I think Hive has potential in terms of horror. I squirmed just looking at the raws. It is horror and psychological however I am not sure about it being "realistic". The setting/situation that the author creates in order to make this horror is a stretch (gigantic insects) however how the people react to the situation seems pretty realistic (at least to me).

So, horror manga that didn't emphasize in gore & creepiness, and has physiological in it?
Horror manga, supernatural based
Ghost Hunt (Novel) - scary as in ghost story scary. read the novel version, not manga/anime one.
Another
Ibitsu
Horror manga, without ghost (more like thriller/mystery)
Doctor Du Ming
Hanged Doll
Zashiki Onna

Well, scary is relative (though goth was pretty awesome), so I can't tell you whether or not it is but...
Well, I think Ajin is a pretty good example of that. It's actually one of the things I like about it
I also second Kokou no Hito, Doctor Du Ming and especially Peak. I should probably warn you that while Du Ming and Kokou are completely scanlated, Peak is not. And trust me, you will be pissed when there are no more chapters to read. It's that good.

I think Kami no Kodomo is one of the few horror manga to have actually creeped me out. I've been squicked out by excessive gore sometimes but rarely actually scared by anything I read.
Otherwise, doing a search on horror + psychological and...
Anne Freaks
Bokurano
Dawn - Tsumetai Te (Tokyo Ghoul reminds me of this manga, actually)
Doll Star - Kotodama Tsukai Ihon
Litchi Hikari Club (the horror for this one is really gory too, though)
Motto, Ikitai...
Omae ga Sekai o Kowashitai nara
Pet Shop of Horrors
So I haven't actually been scared by any of the above, but most of them vaguely fit what you're looking for. Vaguely.
