It all depends on the story itself. You have to check if it’s really important or not.

No, the prequel is just set in the same world but I believe it happens a long time in the past and doesn't affect this story (from what I can tell).

As far as I can tell... this is pretty much like Horizon and Owari, the events that lead to the other but with nothing in common story wise...
