I keep finding myself avoiding long, or really long series out of the fear that I'll feel let down. I'm kind of getting tired of reading short things, but again that fear of feeling disappointed kicks in preventing me from choosing something on my own.
Would you please check out my complete list (to see what I've already read and/or get a feel of what I like) and recommend me something long a worth while. A short reason why it's worth it would be nice.
As for things I like or would prefer ...

Requirements.
At least 5 volumes long.
Complete -(actually completely scanlated, but complete and mostly scanlated is fine.)

Preference - *Note these are not needed
Romance
Dark theme, or undertones. (A sick love works too)

Excluding - I'm not interested in and most likely won't try it if it has these
A Crybaby as a lead.
Hentai

I'm open to any and all genres (Except hentai. I can pick those out myself wink ). (Yes, I'm open to yaoi too)
I tend to get bored if there's no romance, BUT there are some cases that I enjoy a story that has no romance. (Or I would have preferred no romance in it ... like Gantz )
Try not to overload me with too many choices. (more than 10 would be too much ... but if you think it's worth it mentioning all of them go ahead. Actually if you rank them or separate them into small groups you can go crazy if you'd like)
Oh, if it's a tragedy please let me know if it has a happy ending or not ...

Thanks for taking the time to read this, and making a recommendation with a reason why.

Well, I can only recommend a few, since we don't share a lot of similarities in our taste(that is, until I realized that you separated your yaoi to another list, then I'm like, 70% are in my completed/wish list :3), at least for the non-yaoi titles. So here they are:

Love Com: Well, lets just say that its so damn funny biggrin Some people doesn't like the Kansai-ben and avoids it, but this is the manga, so the dialect shouldn't matter that much(I watched the anime then read the manga).

Sakamichi no Apollon: The feels of it, though mostly focus on Jazz, the bits and pieces of daily life and school life still made enough connection for you to feel what the characters are feeling.

Princess Princess: Usually, I'll avoid girly male characters, and in this manga, there are quite a few of them who crossdresses(no matter willing or not), but I'll say the story is definitely good enough that I attempted to read the sequel raw(but failed miserably).

The Friendly Winter: This is a webtoon and it has 64 chapters, they listed it as 2 volumes though, so not sure if its long enough. This manhwa has enough feels in it to make me cry buckets though, so unless you're not into feels, you might want to read this biggrin

Seiyuu Ka!: Notice this when going through your list(didn't first took note of this when browsing through my completed list). If its the funny element that you are feeling like reading, this definitely has it. The way they visualize certain topics(voices mainly) is just so funny.

So........yeah, probably shouldn't spam too much recommendations till I get a better idea of what you like :3

I don't have much time now so I'll just say:

Melo Holic
it's a webcomic with decent length, extremely funny at times and nice gimmicks (keep your sound on, and don't rush things, there are images that aren't just images if they left it like in the original). I liked the romance, it is kind of dark sometimes and the main characters are really likable.
you have to read this in strip format, as they use effects that would otherwise be impossible - I'd like to see that more often.
I think this even got me crying at some point (ironically when there was nothing but text...)

and I know that fear of yours. praise those dependable guys here who always give us good reads smile

Battle Angel Alita - dystopian, cyberpunk, action manga, with small snippets of romance and philosophy. Artwork starts out decent and progresses to ridiculously awesome. Continues in Battle Angel Alita: Last Order (last volume of BAA is "alternate ending")

Hoshi no Samidare - fantasy action/romance with impeccable character development and engaging story. Makes you actually care about each individual character. One of the best endings in manga history, in my opinion.

well most of my favorite long series have yet to be completed, but here are a few that you might like

Shibatora -more lighthearted at first but gets pretty dark in the second half of the story which i liked.

Beauty Pop -i read this one mostly for the male MC's reactions haha, they were so over exaggerated. as you might have guessed this on is not serious and is just a good lighthearted comedy.

Hachimitsu to Clover while not dark it has some tragedy element and plenty of angst. The anime adaptation is also excellent.

Thanks. Most were already in my wish list, but I'll move them to a high priority wish list.

You know that fear as in you feel that way too, or you know I feel that way about long series? (like how a stalker knows everything about that person down to the color underwear? eek . No, I'm kidding you're not a stalker ... If anything I'm closer to being one *cough* smile wink grin )

Thanks for nudging Melo Holic on me. I'll probably check that out soon.

You know I never really liked cyberpunk, but then again I've barely read any. Maybe I just stumbled on bad ones. So I will check this out, and hopefully I'll love it, and give you many thanks for showing me there are good/great ones.
Thank you for your recommendations sunder. biggrin

Well you see ... That is already in my complete list. (that I put a link to in the OP) ... and ... I wasn't a fan of it ... BUT
Thank you for taking the time to read my post, and make a recommendation.

Everyone, thank you for the recommendation. >.< I'm going to need to make a new wish list called "long series recommendations". Thank you all for taking the time to help me less fearful of picking up these long series by sharing why it's worth it.
Since I'm making a new wish list for these anyways. I'm still open to more recommendations. (I like having a nice list to pick things from so I always have something to read when I'm in the mood to read the thing I made a thread about.)

Jiraishin: 18 vols (more if you follow the sequel) - This is a dark, hard boiled, action, detective Seinen. There is a strong element of romance in 2-3 of the story arcs, including the one with the main character. However, this is a dark/tragic type of manga so the romance is beautifully heart-broken rather than feel-good.

Beck: Probably one of the best music manga I've read. Some element of light romance but the focus is on the music band ascension from unknown indie to rock legend. Inspirational and funny. 34 Vols.

Jormungand: The one thing I like the most about this manga is how deliciously smart, pragmatic and evil one of the main character is. It's not the normal greedy-baron evil but the joker-mad evil. No or little romance, mostly action and dark humor. 8 Vols scanslated so far.

It's okay. I'm happy that you read my post, and were trying to help me out.
I liked 100% Perfect Girl for the first 3 or 4 volumes, but after a while the female lead started getting on my nerves, everything started feeling like it was stalling (like they needed to add more hoops for us to jump through), and the ending wasn't good enough.
Actually thank you for reminding me to lower the rating I gave it. >.> (for still leaving a bitter taste).
- Again although I disliked the Manhwa, I appreciate you taking the time to give a recommendation.

The manga about a dog?
Just kidding I know it's not about a dog. (or so I keep hearing)
These are all things I normally wouldn't read on my own, but I'm going to give them a shot because I enjoy boarding my taste, and preferences. Thanks a lot.
