Bringing it up again doesn't sound like you are actually dealing with it.

It has been acknowledged that there should have been an "other" option. I would think that would bring an end to this, obviously it was a misjudgement. Even that may have been acknowledged already. Nothing's going to change, also acknowledged. Surely, this won't happen again so can people move on now?

Also, just to add. I've been here for a while and I've only seen Lambs change polls within seconds - minutes (on a very off day) - of creating them, there is a reason for that. Believe it or not~

because given that this was suggested, seconded and clarified, all within the same day that the poll was made, as far as I can tell...

Not if you live in California.

lambchopsil made this poll at 11:15 pm on Aug 1st Pacific Time. Then he went to bed, woke up, probably had some life to deal with, and then at 8:23 pm on Aug 2nd Pacific Time he made an edit to his first post, which is as he said, almost a full day later than when he posted the poll.

Do you think he's lying to you or something? He said it's too late to fix because by the time he was fully aware of the situation it was too late to fix. Whoops. It happens. Quit hassling the guy, already.

I don't default any gender, I assume according to the data I can get from the user's posts after checking the profile.

Default male or G.I.R.L until I know them a littler better.

To the people bringing social justice into this:
I expected it...but FFS. Just...FFS.

Huh? What do you mean by that? There are no girls on the internet.

Seriously though, I base off my assumptions on avatar and nickname if there are no other indicators... but if it is complete Anon, in my mind it is a guy, until proven otherwise.

btw. I'm a guy.

Cause the amount of fujoshis here is overwhelming.

Female, default male. Unless the topic is shoujo or yaoi, then default female. Avatars are too misleading, but interests tell the truth, most often.

This week's poll is a little odd but very interesting! I don't know about others, but I really can't tell if I'm talking to a male or female based on their written language (or even avatars/user pics), so I tend not to make assumptions about gender... unless of course, if it's something like a comment on imdb, in which case it's not too hard to know the gender of someone (usually judging from the kinds of unsavoury or discriminatory remarks that tend to be made there!). roll

Edit: Yes, there should be an 'other' gender option, but unfortunately, most people do not think or care about that- the world still thinks in binaries (on the whole). It's just too complex or 'weird' for many individuals to grasp and/or accept. This is just a MU poll, though. There are worse avenues for discrimination... like the census or passports!

Only a day.

Do you think he's lying to you or something?

I am thinking that the explanation is lacking.
As to whether or not this is due to lying...
Maybe, maybe not.
Maybe there are details I am not aware of, maybe there are issues that he's failed to explain, maybe there are details that he has missed ...or something else.

Lying is certainly a possibility that I am certainly not dismissing.
Why not? Well...
Is he someone that I know, and have learned to trust?
No.
Do people lie?
Yes.
Most people do.
Especially when they are criticized.

That said, I'd like to repeat that I don't assume that lying is is the reason.
I tend to avoid assuming, in general.
Not just in the area of people's gender.

When I hear an explanation that doesn't seem to make sense, I often don't just let that go.
That has nothing to do with the original issue.
In other words:
It's not that I'm hung up on the issue of an "other" option. I'm hung up on the explanation for why there isn't one.
...as I clearly stated in that comment, right after the sentence you cited.
Please bother to actually read comments, before replying to them.

To be fair, even if there would be "other" option, some people would still be angry or butthurt over:
"why is it "other" and not *something specific*?" or "I'm *something specific*, why do you call me "other"? That's offensive and insensitive!"

or something like that...
When it comes to the topic like this, there is no winning with some people.

I default male. But I also always gender a person by the way they communicate online, which is probably what most people do anyway.

I choose not to default any gender. Even through the writing style etc., it is hard for me to tell. Sometimes, on anonymous chats where I talk about anime/manga, the gender doesn't really matter to me. However, I guess it plays a factor in online conversations since when I say I'm male even though I'm female, and the conversation is going well, sometimes the stranger just disconnects. XD
