The best: Red River (AKA Anatolia Story). Trust me, I don't like shoujo that much usually, but this is one series that I couldn't let go, so yeah, the best.

Other ones that come close: Skip Beat, Tokyo Crazy Paradise, Aishiteruze Baby and Nodame Cantabile.

do you read the japanese versions of kaichou? cuz last time i checked there were only 2 chapters out, which was months ago. It's depressing cuz it looks like a potentially awesome shojo manga.

i agree with everyone who said fruits basket. others might not think so but i have the 1st two vol. of the ultimate edition and it says that fruits basket is #1 selling and has an award 4 best manga winner from the american anime awards
