This week's poll from psycho-shocker is pretty straightforward. You prefer stories about dystopias or utopias?

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: Do you think loli / shota should be illegal or banned?
Choices:
Yes / Yes - votes: 2741 (21.6%)
Yes / No - votes: 422 (3.3%)
No / Yes - votes: 546 (4.3%)
No / No - votes: 5400 (42.6%)
Don't care - votes: 3567 (28.1%)
There were 12676 total votes.
The poll ended: November 22nd 2014

Polarizing... Other than that, no comment.

PS: I just got Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U. 8-player smash is crazy

I chose Utopia because the cynic in me likes seeing things break, lol. Also there's something to be said for stories where people have everything then lose it and have to work to get it back/take revenge....

Well...In any circumstances I'll choose “ Dystopia ” kinda story...it fun this way...The Protagonist/s can vary this way...
The Author gets to make Awesome Plot twists easily...

Though, time to times “ Utopia ” kinda stories' are great too...As it goes ~ “ Perfect Isn't Always Perfect ” ~!

This depends to much from the plot, a fake utopia or a dystopia on the point of collapsing. It's way to difficult to chose, so I take one randomly.

Utopia sound more interesting due to the less crowded field but is WAY too hard to write.
The well established and safe Dystopia it is.

Well, let's just say, I can't think of a utopia story right now. So I picked utopia. As for dystopia, I can think of dozens that I kinda just lost interest. I'm not a huge fan of science fic after all. It gets tiring. Then again, I just found a dystopia anime that climbed its way into my favs, so you can never say for sure.

With utopia as the setting of story, there likely will be an unforeseen crisis.

I prefer something like an utopia world that slowly fall into crisis then destroyed with the protagonist struggle in vain, than dystopia world filled with naive protagonists who unreasonably optimistic added with all the coincidence that make a shitty happy end.

Voted utopia, because I don't think I've ever read a story about a perfect world. But wouldn't a plot need a dystopia in any case? Because as soon as something goes wrong (/something interesting happens) in an utopia, it becomes a dystopia. I can't imagine a good story taking place in a perfect world.

Chose utopia since question was which is more interesting and most dystopia are about taking down the totalitarian gov't or something whereas there are many different ways in which a utopia has to be written to make it a story. If the question was which I like more, that'd be more difficult, it's hard to choose between 1984 and Brave New World.

Is there really a utopian story? Really really utopian? I think not. Any story that shows a Utopia ends up proving that there isn't a real Utopia, and that any Utopia in reality is kind of a Dystopia.

I don't like dystopia, but I have never read utopia-themed manga. so which one should I choose?. well, for now I choose utopia, because when there is 2 choices in which one of them I don't like, and the other one is unknown, I'll choose the unknown.

Is there even such a thing as Utopia? I don't remember reading any, that was truly a Utopia... Most of the time it's a Dystopia, where the people themselves don't realise this.

I like dystopia better, since Utopia is way perfect for it to be realistic. Where can you see such perfect place? U.S.? And with the dystopia settings, you could see the characters struggles more.

Well, first of all, I don't think I've ever read a story where a Utopia is portrayed. In my opinion, a utopia would have to be a comedy (maybe a cheeky romance) or something along those lines...

I like dystopia better because usually, it's when things go wrong that we see what we're really capable of. I just love to see the characters' reactions and sacrifices when they're in do-it-or-die situations. Makes me think, 'man, would I be able make that decision?'. In end-of-the-world kind of stories, that's actually what moves the plot and gives you excitement, nailing your butt to wherever place you're sitting on while reading xD. The struggles of the characters and their ability to cope with whatever thing fate throws at them. I just love it.

I don't understand enough of utopia and dystopia, aside from one's green and the other's barren to sum them up.

This is hard to do when there isn't any specific about what part the poll is asking...
If it's purely setting without character or story, i will say utopia, based on what i read more.
Though it doesn't matter much since there's other factor that decide whether i like a story or not.
No. 6, kino's journey, nausica....those are good. So dystopian or utopia, it doesn't matter much.

Utopia? Kind of vague because if all's good there won't be a story. Slice of life?
