Since a true utopia is impossible and any semblance of it is actually a dystopia...

But my main reason for not choosing either is because both a fake utopia and a vivid dystopia are capable of producing really good story-material, both more often than not culminating in how it was brought on. Twists and turns are frequent in these, so it's more choosing both than neither.

Dystopian of course. Because a utopian story wouldn't be as interesting as compared to dystopian where there will be angst and action, Writing a really utopian story to give the readers interested would be tough because in a world where kids like super heroes kicking villains butt and games like GTA....it would really be tough.

Most stories probably to start out as a utopia but for the sale of plot there needs to be dystopia following all that peacefulness.

Well I choose Utopia, mostly.

By definition 'Dystopia' should be more interesting, but I think you can see enough wars, famine, climate change, misery, etc. if you just open the news. So yeah, something different is appreciated

Utopia. Sure, I know it won't be a true "utopia" but seeing the betrayal, getting to see what the truth really is, and all that plot development can make a great series. Besides, dystopia systems usually somehow end up with women becoming an endangered species so it becomes one sided pretty fast. That and I can get that stuff from the newspaper and tv news. They're always happy to talk about some shooting or robbery.

darn I missed this poll. I find both quite interesting and humanity has always been obsessed with both but each defined in a different way with each new story. Dystopia is all the craze now but it is often the breaking of the illusion of a utopia within the story. In Hunger Games, one way to look at it was the breaking of the illusion of the Capital. A somewhat sidenote but I find it quite annoying that authors jumped on that bandwagon (for example Divergent). I don't mean to diss it but let's be honest, part of its success is due to fans of Hunger Games in search for a story that was alike in nature. Anyway, both can potentially been written very well but utopia stories are misleading since it usually results in breaking the illusion of it.

...what? never heard of that saying...perfection is like "beauty is in the eye of the beholder." Perfection varies with each person and to be more frank, perfection is an ideal that is achievable as humans are in nature driven to want more.
