I'm not sure if there is a similar topic, but, have you ever read a manga and thought "wow, this reminds me of 'insert book'?" Or really needed/wanted a book similar to a manga you've read? If so share them here.
I'm reading Graceling by Kristen Cashore and I think that fans of it would like Seirei no Moribito

I actually haven't read a manga that I wished were a book or that it reminded me of a book. But a couple years ago I read a book that reminded me of a Hindi movie I saw (repeatedly) when I was younger. I know that's not what this thread is about but I thought I'd share

Haruki Murakami & Asano Inio remind me a lot of each other (Asano's NH especially).
I prefer Asano Inio though, since I don't want to slap his characters nearly as much.
Other than those two, I can't recall anything in particular.
To me, it has a lot to do with the style of writing. I don't read Japanese literature much, because I don't access to it, but in general, it's the closest to the type of manga I enjoy.
Besides themes, I don't know how much regular books can borrow from manga, which, thanks to the art, delivers ambiance in a way a book could never do.

Hm Murakami is more fantastical but i see what you mean.
Kentaro Miura´s writing regarding the court politics aspect of his series reminds me of Shakespeare´s tragedys. The other way around "The Confusions of Young Törless" that my germany classes forced us to read(even the teacher hated it) could have been a 70s shonen-ai manga.
Psycho Pass 1 tried desperatly to be a Philip K. Dick novel but failed due to pretentiousness. The barely related season 2 wants to be a William Gibson cyberpunk novel and succeeds.

^The creators said they were inspired by Philip K. Dick's works didn't they? Am I imagining this? Is there a William Gibson novel you'd suggest?
What was the movie and manga?
I don't constantly think that but there are some manga that I'd love as books. I am desperate to read a book similar to Kanata Kara. I'm sure there are many and I have read books where woman/girls travel to other worlds... But, I haven't read one with the same tone as from far away.
I don't know. ;_; Have you read the novels the series is based on? If not please do. Also, if you haven't watched/read 12 kingdoms, legend of korra, or graceling I'd check them out as well. Goodreads has some other suggested readings. http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2887211-moribito

I don't know about English books, but if it's Japanese and Chinese ones, I can name plenty. Well, there's a lot of mangas based off novels, so it can't be helped. Especially for those that are adaptions themselves. For example, I went and read all of Yu Wo's novels after reading 1/2 Prince manga. Her early novels all felt the same...
But for English novels... *thinks seriously* um... uh... eh... I can't think of any... How about Zetsuen no Tempest and Shakespeare? > < No, I haven't read any Shakespeare, it's just Aika quotes them...
Oh wait! Eien and um... uh... well, dog novels? Ahaha... What was that name to that movie...
Unfortunately I considered myself "graduate" from real books. XD|||
If it's similar settings, there's plenty, but the feel is just too different.

@kawaiiairbender William Gibson best work is the "Neuromancer" trilogy. It basically gave us cyberpunk. 9/10 If you play FF VII or watched GitS you will see the connections immediately. Dick´s best one is my favourite novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep" ? 10/10 The problem with PP1 is that they were inspired by anything and everything and quoted like a madman without establishing their own identity. Man is season 2 from another planet.
I now need to look into Graceling and good Shakespeare never ages.
This french comic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Le_Scorpion reminds me of Ezio´s Assassin's Creed triology.
