I'm unsure of what to say, partly due to the thread derailing, and partly due to not understanding what exactly the point of this discussion is. Multiple people already explained the background of Japan's culture leading to this topic of "sexism in manga," so I don't know where else this thread's meant to go.

Anyway, not much else I can say unless I'd be repeating someone else's viewpoint, mostly about how the market's meant to determine what the people want, along with ideas/thoughts themselves being harmless, compared to having those ideas/thoughts become a part of one's behavior + beliefs. So for me, all I'll say upon the matter: I just love the different variations of escapism. :3

One of the only series that bothers me for being somewhat "sexist" is Gun X Clover. Now, I use the term "sexist" very loosely, since the main antagonist, the heroine, and a few other main characters are all very powerful females that do get shit done. However, I find the issue being that a number of other experienced, high-ranking female main characters (all mercenaries) need to be saved by the protagonist. They're fully capable of winning a fight, but the author has them always rely on the protagonist to get shit done. They then only exist to lust after the protagonist coz he's such a badass! Even a guy realized how bad ass he was and decided to get a sex change just to impress him. So perhaps it's not "sexism" that's the issue I have with it, but an issue with the author writing characters (or writing overall)...
