Yeah the site does keep track off all the releases but main info like synopsis and such are not there and for me that is one of the biggest good points from this database. Although it has to be said that the direct links to the corresponding chapters on aho are nice.

Quote from PROzess
For that reason I learned Japanese.

Each his own, I know, but I'm the type that stays away from spoilers or summaries and want to enjoy the full piece in all its glory.
I'm not going to force that value on others. I'm simply disappointed that some people are satisfied with reading inaccurate spoilers.
And the more people are satisfied with just that, the more people are going to start to simply provide that instead of proper translation, because, duh, it's faster.

Your whole "to each his own" rings awfully hollow with your twenty five posts denouncing people who read machine translations. I mean, in this very post you turn around and say how "disappointed" in people who do. FYI some people here have jobs, maybe more than one, a family, ect. Not everyone has the time to sit down and learn a new language. Climb down off your high perch.

They don't have time to learn a foreign language, but they have time to read incomprehensible gibberish? Something doesn't compute...

Why should the admin have the responsibility to create a sister site?
This site was made for MANGA and it clearly derailed from its original purpose (for the better or worse depending on the person). They are simply going back to the roots.
If you want a sister site, why not make one yourself? But hey, that would require effort on your part, so not gonna happen.

It would be nice if MU would allow a clone of itself to serve as the base of a new novel tracking site. But yeah, maintaining a novel site is the responsibility of novel readers.

That's possible?! eek

If so (I know this is unreasonable and probably won't work or even be possible so don't yell at me.... please) it would be great if the site's could link LN adapted to or from manga and vice versa so that if you find a LN that you like you could see if there is a manga adaptation of it.

(Again this is just something I thought up and know that it is not ever going to happen)

Cmertb, spot on. If MU does do something for like that for LNs, then great. Otherwise, maybe it's a great opportunity for fans to do something themselves and add to the community they love?

Some thoughts.

Novels:
- While novels per say dont take longer to approve than manga/manhwa/manhua, there are a lot of em. And they have all the issues as 'ordinary' releases sometime have (hard to find the release on the groups site, unclear chapter numbering and so on...) So assuming that novels are 30% of the reported releases, they take up 30% of the staffs time.
- Novels don't have any visual elements and should therefore not be part of MU, just as j-dramas shouldn't be part of the site.
- The novels in the database could (probably) easily be exported for anyone who wants to create their own novel database. There is no reason that exported file can't sit on MU for a year or so.
- If there is enough potential staff for novels then they can easily join a new site.

Webtoons:
While I think self published webtoons often are of horrible quality there is no reliable way of differentiating between worthy and unworthy series. So lets keep them all for now.

Not to be picky but while novels don't have any visual elements light novels do to some extent. I would say about 8 to 10 pages per volume (don't quote me on that)

I agree with the changes, and honestly, I would go as far as removing anything that's not a comic altogether.

The only reason these novels and or toons have even gotten the time of the day is because the users of this site have abused the system. Think about it, if MU didn't allow you users to abuse the system and post novels and toons in the first place, this discussion would not even be happening right now.

The wrong doing needs to be fixed.

Honestly these changes feel a bit off to me because webnovels/novels quite often lately get turned into manga's. A few of my recent favorites are even going into anime lately.

I'm not saying they should have the responsibility. But wouldn't it be wise for them to do so, to make the corresponding parties happy?

I can make one myself. I actually have enough resources, and I know a particular few amounts of people who can code for me, but why would I stop at just doujinshi and novels?

If I'm going to actually put the effort to offer what this site lacks, I might as well go all the way and offer what the same strengths that this site has as well. I don't want to compete with a community that I am 100% fond of and loyal to. And I'm well aware that mangaupdates doesn't care about competition, and yet I doubt that they would offer a usable open-source code of the mangaupdates database.

It would be extremely awful if the landowners of mangaupdates decides to throw away some benefits and we tenants would be forced to find or create a new home. Mangaupdates has the code resources, they clearly have the capable staffs, and they have loyal members. They should use that to their advantage and expand. Limiting themselves will only slow lead to forcible ruin.

Why not remove manhua and manhwa too?

If that's the case why was it not a problem 7 or 8 years ago? The problem now is coming from the web novels not the light novels.

Web toons I have no idea about since I don't read them so my opinion is no good on that subject.
