myspace that is dying in the dust somewhere.
facebook that i use on a daily bases, sometimes minutely. i only update every once in awhile, i just like to stalk everyone's statuses. lol
and a twitter i made like two hours ago. some friends don't have fb so i was forced to make one to keep in contact with them.~_~ well that's okay as long as i don't resort to using the phrase, "tweet me".
and there's more but they aren't really categorized as "social networking sites".

No, I don't do facebook or what have you.
I'm not allowed, and I don't really feel the need.
Yes, I'm one of those people still living with their parents where mommy's word is law at the age of 20; pathetic, I know.

I do indeed use facebook.

Useful way of keeping in contact with the friends I have back home. I've met so many people all over the place too and it'd be really hard to keep in contact with them all without it.
Not impossible without it, but it's convenient. Very convenient.

Oh well, at least I don't have to pay rent and stuff; it's not all bad.

Yeah I mean I live in uni accomadation which is really good. I am getting a house next year so I will be a free man. I love having my own place I know paying bills sucks but the fact that you don't have to answer to anyone but yourself is a massive bonus. I can do what I like when I like aslong as it's with-in the law which goes without saying really.

I am curious as to why you're not allowed on facebook at the age of 20?

Dutch universities don't have campuses, and I live within traveling distance of mine; so, moving out now is just a big waste of money. And having my own place would also mean I'd have to keep it clean and do my own laundry, cook for myself, even make my own sandwiches; now, mom does all of those things for me.

As to why I'm not allowed to have facebook; my mom is paranoid about the dangers of the internet.
If I violate her rules, there will be repercussions.

I do have facebook account... to play games. biggrin
I rarely use it to update/comment status or share photos ( I think it's nearly 2 years now I don't update my profile). I set the privacy to be high too, only family and real life friends can see my wall.
Although I use it mainly for gaming, sometimes I use it to check old friends' news, sometimes message them if I lost their number. So I think it's useful in a way, but we have to be cautious, no need to expose our self too much.

So, she wont let you get facebook, but she'll let you talk to complete strangers on the internet?
Unless she doesn't know about MU of course...

Yeah well one day you will have to leave your mothers house and become an independant person so you'd better start now. Don't want to be still living with your parents at 40. I think there is a group you can join on facebook that you can discuss this with like minded people but I guess you'll never know.

Oh well hope all is well. smile

I have mixed feelings about these "social networking" sites. I just think that they're a necessary evil for the times we're in right now. I believe that we might be heading towards a road that leads us to big brother ultimately controlling us by letting out our most personal and private information out for anyone on the planet to see.

I'm a casual user of Facebook myself, I use it to check up with my friends and to play some of their games (especially poker) on offer. But, there's this high school popularity contest mentality that the most frequent users of these sites want to me the main attraction in their worlds, so they take as many pictures as they can, so they can attract the most attention they can get. I'm worried that we might not be able to get the dream job we've been always wanting, because most companies hiring units will be and prioritize using Facebook to find that recruit to put them over the edge as a company. Also, I have always wondered why would a single person want a friendbase around 500 or 1000? Personally, I think that's insane, especially if you know only a handful of them in real life or some other place online. This exhibitionist aspect of these kinds of sites annoys the crap out of me.

Yeah especially with the new face detection stuff now on there. The world is pretty much becoming big brother I can agree with you on that. I dunno I use it because it is good at orginising big get togethers and keeping in contact with old mates and family members across the globe.

I have facebook, and I'm always surprised when now and then I run into someone without an account. It is potentially hugely addictive and a huge time waster, but though I check it a few times a day, it is just for a few minutes tops, to see if any of my friends have sent me a message or invited me to an event. It just requires some self-control.

I find it useful for staying in contact with my friends, because people don't use email that much anymore (though I do). It is convenient for planning events. And if you meet someone and want to stay in contact with them without giving them your phone number, facebook is the typical way to go.

Of course, I have my privacy settings locked down tight so that only my friends can see my info, and I don't have my address, phone number or email on my profile.

It is true that most of my friends have hundreds of facebook friends. I only have 80, though of course not nearly all of them are real friends. Most are acquaintances, or potential friends. Only people I actually know though. No strangers. You could say that all those facebook friends are for people that you maybe don't really talk to but don't want to cut off all chance of communicating with. My dad was saying recently how he has lost contact with a lot of people over the years. Well, with facebook they are still there if you want to talk to them. I also keep in touch with family via facebook.

Also, it really saves me when something happens to my cell phone (I lost it recently, though I got it back, thank goodness). I don't have a landline here, so facebook is pretty much my only other way to communicate that other people check frequently.

I do have a facebook, but was too young when the myspace fad hit, and I think twitter is stupid unless you're famous. Although I have a fb, I'll only log on once a week to reply and accept requests, I'll never change my status. I don't actually like it, it takes too much time and most the people I accept requests from I don't actually like or want to spend more time with. The people I enjoy spending time with I'd rather actually go do stuff with them or just text, it's much easier. It is funny though. I always hear about how "addicted" people are, and how they log on every two seconds, but I find it more of a nuisance and social obligation than something I actually enjoy.
