This week's poll stemmed from something our member luispauloml said, but it's not actually the question he (she?) suggested. For the uninitiated, J-pop is Japanese pop music.

You can submit poll ideas here (and try to keep them manga/anime-related)
http://www.mangaupdates.com/showtopic.php?tid=3903

Previous Poll Results:
Question: You're mildly sick, so you normally...
Choices:
Treat it like a regular day as much as possible - votes: 3623 (40.7%)
Only try to get more sleep than usual and drink lots of water - votes: 2683 (30.1%)
Drink a special tea or eat a special food (chicken soup, porridge, etc) - votes: 1096 (12.3%)
Use pills or other medicine - votes: 1301 (14.6%)
Visit the doctor / hospital - votes: 60 (0.7%)
Other - votes: 141 (1.6%)
There were 8904 total votes.
The poll ended: October 16th 2015

Fine, I guess a flu isn't mildly sick...

I used to listen to it ALL THE TIME but have since moved on from it. When I was younger, I was really into the eurodance and bubblegum pop-type stuff, and a lot of j-pop fell right into that. I also played a lot of DDR, which didn't help my obsession, and watched a lot more anime than I do now. After that, I gradually transitioned into k-pop, which I still listen to (though admittedly, I've been out of the k-loop lately), and Vocaloid (mainly covers because god, those things are an acquired taste). What I listen to the most these days are 1) old songs on my iPhone, 2) random and rare gems I chance to hear on the radio, and 3) soundtracks. Yes, all my Pandora Hearts, Ace Attorney, Madoka Magica, and Trauma Team/Center songs have been played into the ground. laugh

So yeah, I'm not really into the super cutesy stuff I was into back then, and I don't actively seek out j-pop, but if I happen to hear a catchy j-pop/j-rock song, I'll definitely listen to it. Recently, I've been stuck on the Noragami OPs and EDs, so it's not like I swore the stuff off. bigrazz

If I hear a nice OP/ED/background theme while watching an anime, I download the full song and listen to it -- usually on loop until I get truly sick of it. Otherwise, I don't seek out J-pop. In fact, I don't actively look for any song in any language; if I hear something great on the radio while on my way to uni/the town I look it up and download it for later listening; and since my favourite station is an English multi-genre one, that's pretty much all I listen to regularly.

I don't even know how to go about looking for non-anime Japanese songs, actually. We don't get international stations in our country, and the local ones only do songs in our country's official languages + Hindi.

I occasionally hear songs I like in anime, but overall I'm not into J-Pop. I've tried looking for J-Pop music, thinking it would be good practice for learning Japanese. But the majority of J-Pop I've come across I haven't liked.

Yes! Time to times. Not just J-Pop or Anime songs, I listen to any other songs that I find a bit interesting.
So, it's the ' Sometimes... ' option for me I guess.

I also listen too K-Pop. But, that's for another time.

I always treat "mild" diseases like a regular day but i am not above playing sick. Who is?

Sometimes sound about right. Good and bad music exists in all genres after all and i like it when Japanese media mixes up the music genres as seen in PlatinumĀ“s games.
"Idols" are the worst though and regularly produce worse music than casting shows so that type of "music" can go to hell.

It's 'All the time!' for me.
Since I found Ai Otsuka somewhere around 2006, I've been crazy about J-pop, and Japanese music in general.
Being a person who listens pretty much any genre from rock and metal to electro and disco, people are usually surprised when I tell them about my tastes.
Which is totally fair, since Yui Horie and MUCC are about as far apart from each other as, for example, Metallica and Miley Cyrus. :'D

I listen to J-Pop sometimes. I much prefer K-Pop, though- K-Pop reminds me of 90s pop, which I used to enjoy as a teen. J-Pop also sounds too electronic and the girls always have really high-pitched almost chipmunk voices, which I personally do not enjoy...

I'm actually male. (I should have updated my profile long ago...)
And for those wondering, I wanted to know which has more fans: K-pop or J-pop.
As for this question, my answer is sometimes.

Nah, I am not a pop kind of a person, especially the upbeat kind of stuff. I've liked a bunch of openings of some series in the past, but nothing's really been good in like 10 years, plus those didn't really count as pop, except some Inuyasha or Rurouni Kenshin openings.

I think K-Pop has more fans than J-Pop. K-Pop is popular throughout Asia, and has cult followings in the West. As far as I know, J-Pop is only popular in Japan. Although a group like BabyMetal has been able to find some success outside of Japan.

Because of Anime, Games(PS2,3,4, PC, Nintendo etc.), Idols J-pop is more popular.
But, the amount of quality song production are rapidly decreasing. New Artists/Idols seems to believe in Quantity over Quality. For popularity of course. They are selling it and people are buying it. So, the market is as good as it used to be.
But, K-pop is getting pretty close. And they're producing lot of good songs now days.
I believe they might catch up to J-pop soon enough.

While I don't know either of the language, I can appreciate the beauty and Awesomeness. And I believe it's the same for most of interested people from MU, MAL, etc.

P.S. I actually do understand a bit. Very little though. Btw, everything I started is just my personal opinion. Not based on any official statistics. ^^

Can't really say. There's usually only good music and bad music, genre would be irrelevant. Having said that, most forms of "Pop" aren't really my thing. I suppose the J-Pop I've heard has been better than the K-Pop (less cheesy/saccharine/irritating) but that's not saying much - like saying piss is better than shit.
